Question. What is the purpose of the fans coming on the headlights every time I open the car door?
Isn’t that just a waste of battery?

The LED lights are tightly housed, and since they generate considerable heat they must be cooled to prevent premature failure.

That I understand. I just assumed it would only be active though if the headlights are on or the engine is running.
just seems a waste to me for it to kick on every time the door opens

I believe the running lights come on as soon as you open a door.

Exactly, having the running lights come on every time the door opens is a waste of electricity. Just one of many wasteful things that help to run the battery down and shorten the life of the running lights.

When I was trying to sleep in my BS, it was very irritating to have everything light up when I opened the car door for ventilation, and later closed it to keep out the rain. Volkswagon had it figured out 60 years ago with a switch that would disable the interior lights when you didn't want them to come on.

The rolling boulders and the bucking bronco were cute the first 10 times they came on. Now they are jsut an annoyance because I can't change the radio station until the show is over.
