One of the problems with exhaust systems is that they can rust from the inside. Condensation gets in and, if the system is made from inferior materials, there's not much that can be done about the interior rust.

Or SE Texas. Salt belongs on glass rims, not roads!
(Seriously, tho - there are a few alum/steel paints out there. $, tho)

You're right; I missed the "with a coating" part!
The problem with the coating on the metal before it is turned into a final product is that the coating gets pierced or damaged during the manufacturing process (like the cut at the end of the exhaust). That then exposes the plain carbon steel that coating is meant to protect. It is obviously better than no coating at all but aluminizing after it was bent/cut would be a much better solution, if the goal is to prevent rust.

I also remember when rusting out exhausts were a big problem. I know the OP's pictures make the rust look really bad. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that Ford has tested this exhaust system like they test every other part and it will last for at least a decade. Road salt and short trips where the exhaust doesn't get truly hot enough are probably worst case scenarios for this situation.
