Does anyone? Used to do it with 05 Escape. No problem ever. Just don’t think the struts as well as the glass as well as the body sheet metal is as sturdy as that 17 year old Escape was.
Your thoughts.
Thanks

I have on occasion had the back window open and have driven around for a time . I would not drive at highway speeds with it open , thinking the wind would certainly slam it shut and that is when it can shatter.

I've done it with my dog at around town speeds. I wouldn't go on the highway. Apparently the owners manual advises against it but they also show a surfboard poking out the back on many ads and on the pictogram on the glass. The glass seems very breakable. So every time I've done it, I do feel a little iffy about it. I wish the glass retracted into the gate like a 4runner. That would be a lot better.

My concern is pistons failing or going over bumps and glass slamming and possibly breaking.
maybe I’ll attempt around town.

Try this, you’ll like it! I know they say not to be used when driving. That’s a CYA. The concern would be carbon monoxide. Trucks had rear windows that opened. Old Bronco’s rear windows that opened, station wagon’s windows opened. Even early mini vans had rear quarter windows that would open.

I do it once in while to stick a long 2 x 4 though, if I'm too lazy to strap it to the roof. I put a hand towel under it to protect the rubber gasket.

Just local roads though. I keep the front windows down, just in case for fumes.
