I either park next to a curb where I can distance myself from the other car or a minivan. I also have a handicap placard right now due to a surgery so I've been using that too. People have no respect out there.Ill ask my dealer as they know we are going to be trading it back to them. They might just say not to worry about it and they will fix it when they get it back.
The ding is right in the middle of the drivers side rear door.
I actually worked for a dealership 20 years ago and they had a guy come once a week and do the paintless dent repair. It was the first time i had ever heard of it.
Pisses me off that i park at the end of parking lots to avoid dings and the one time i had no choice and had to park with all the widow lickers they ding my car.
Now i keep looking at eveyone elses cars and i cant believe how common it is to have door dings.
You are probably correct about not fixing it. Shortly before trading in my old Escape I brought it to the Dealer's body shop to find out how much it would cost to repair the front fender because the engine splash cover fell down and the car needed to be jacked up to remove the cover completely so I could drive home. Unfortunately the idiot put the jack on the fender seam under the car and caused the fender to be pushed out at the bottom. The body shop manager told me that I was giving the appraiser to much credit and should just leave it alone. In most cases it is not worth repairing damage as it will cost more to repair the car than the increased trade in price had the car not been damaged. It usually costs the dealer much less to repair than it would cost the owner.Ill ask my dealer as they know we are going to be trading it back to them. They might just say not to worry about it and they will fix it when they get it back.

This is refreshing because I was hit with something in a parking lot as well. It's a gnarly ding on the rear passenger door right on the body line in the lower half of the door. There is some noticeable red paint trade as well so I am not sure how another door may have hit me like that. Anyway, I was super concerned about not being able to fix it given the body line.I park as far away from everyone that I can. It still sometimes doesn't matter. I got a door ding on my Edge while sitting in a supermarket parking lot (still in the car) while parked far out from the store. Unfortunately someone much closer to the store pushed a shopping cart away from their car and it rolled across the parking Lot right into my lower driver door. The dent from the shopping car was right along a sharp crease line in the door. I took it to my dealer and the contractor that they use was able to use paintless dent removal to remove the ding. It looks like it never happened. In another more recent incident I had a loaner Bronco Sport and I was as far away as I could be in a Costco parking lot with no one near me. I came out to find a dent in the corner of the rear bumper and a broken tail light. Store video showed someone decided to park next to me and backed into the bumper. While I was glad that it was the loaner and not my car the insurance company told me that since they would be paying out more than $500 for the repair I would see a premium increase. I had to switch insurance companies before the premium increase hit. I was assured by the new insurance company agent that the incident should not incase my premium as it was a parked car. I guess we will see.
As Jumps said: People have no respect for others. Too many times I have seen people throw their doors open and hit the car next to them or leave the shopping carts I the middle of a parking lot especially on a windy day. Unfortunately even parking far away is no guarantee of not getting hit in a parking lot.
