My '22 Outer Banks has CoPilot 360 and I am concerned after an incident. The car in font of me slowed very quickly to make a turn, I slowed but apparently not quick enough. The dashboard started screaming at me while flashing a red warning. However, I did not feel the brakes engage as I thought they should.

We had an incident where, like you, a car in front of us suddenly turned right at the intersection and then stopped short. Our Big Bend did the same thing screaming warning on the instrument cluster but it jammed the brakes before I could and steered slightly away from the idiot to a dead stop! Fortunately, there wasn't a vehicle close behind us, otherwise I'm certain we'd have been rear ended. We had/have 360 assist+ and it was activated at the time, so I can attest it works.

The collision avoidance system first preloads the brakes so when you do apply them you will get maximum braking. The emergency braking system only applies the brakes if it judges you are not responding to the audio/visual warning fast enough. Keep in mind, emergency braking system is not meant to avoid a collision, it's meant to reduce impact forces to protect the occupants. It MAY avoid a collision, but there's no guarantee.

What does preload mean in this context? That is, what is the braking system doing in this preload condition? (I googled and didn’t find a satisfactory answer)
