Bought my Bronco Big Bend a week before Christmas. Drove it the next week 550 miles home then 550 back the next week. Still drove around town and a couple of short trips. No problems.

My wife, daughter and I went to the gas station near our house Friday (May 6, 2022), and my vehicle refused to crank. It gave me a bunch of error messages. When the tow arrived, it cranked and he carried it to the dealership as I couldn’t get through to get Ford assistance.

Now I’m told by the service department it’ll be a week before they can try to diagnose, they’ve never heard of the issue and don’t know what it can be, and they won’t give me a loaner.

I loved this car. Now I don’t think I can trust it to even get around now much less long trips. It’s our family vehicle too. Only had it four months and have 3852 miles on it. I don’t drive it hard at all. Around town and sometimes to go to the mountains. I’m a soccer dad for crying out loud. So disappointed.

Does anyone have any info that might illuminate the situation? I’m mortified.

I had a similar message on my Maverick. Error messages at 440, 1800 and around 2500 mikes. I could drive the vehicle but the service dept never did pinpoint the problem. Told me when it happens to pull over and shut off the vehicle. That worked for awhile but it was troubling not knowing if it would happen again.
I sold the car and purchased a BS.

Some other people have had issues similar to this and had battery issues as the root cause. Not really a diagnosis but just observational of other postings. It seems that if the battery gets low, or has an issue that causes it to be low, that will cause a bunch of seemingly unrelated error codes that make it appear that the entire vehicle is about to fall into pieces. I would say this is relatively common with modern vehicles when the battery gets low for whatever reason.

Fingers crossed that your issue is as simple as that.

This whole situation with getting anything worked on these days is getting frustrating. Many have stopped offering rental cars because they can’t keep enough in the fleet because they do not have enough technicians and mechanics to work on cars. The local yoda dealership has 8 quick lanes and 3 quick lane technicians. Not so quick these days. My local Ford dealership is the same. Quick lane takes several hours.
I hope you get your problem resolved soon. Maybe @Ford Motor Company can intervene and help you.

Something similar happened to me after I stopped for gas. I eventually got it started and was able to drive it to the dealership. They updated the PCM software and it was fine up until I sold it.

Unfortunately, your symptoms could result from any number of issues. As Eric noted, what you describe sound similar to others with battery issues. It also sounds similar to others who've had issues with the shift knob.

The reality is unless you have some troubleshooting skills you're going to have to rely on your service department to sort it out, and that's becoming an exercise in frustration these days. I hope you get your car back soon...

I have no trouble shooting skills unfortunately. I got it to the dealership. I love the car, but to have such a sever issue that makes it undrivable Abe possibly unsafe when it does decide to crank makes me regret getting it.

As many will tell you, vehicles are complex systems. It is amazing that most of them come off the assembly line and don’t have some kind of issue. The most important thing is that it gets fixed. Having a single issue, no matter how bad, should not really bother anyone (even though I know it does). When it has 2/3/4 issues is when you should get truly concerned about quality/reliability.

Hopefully its something they can track down and fix and its reliable afterwards.

Understood. We work hard for our money, and when we spend it--especially a lot of it--on something we want to be happy with it. I hope they get you squared away quickly.

We bought our Outer Banks June last year. Almost 9,000 miles and no problems. I feel lucky. I hope it remains that way. We do some mild off roading in soft dirt and sand.

There are several people experiencing this. I was able to get it to crank after a few key cycle resets (opening doors, getting out, shutting doors, opening, trying to start, etc.) then it acted as if nothing happened. Unnerving! Brought it to dealer, and they could not figure it out. Just said it showed loss of contact in some computer module. And sent me home after two days. I called Ford. Complained that I don’t feel exactly confident in this vehicle. A few weeks before this happened, I got a warning light and dealership said I need a new shift control knob…. But it is on infinite backorder!!! Keep me posted on what you find out please.
