What I'm hearing is if you need a load of pavers from Home Depot, that $19.99/ day truck rental is a great deal. You won't care how much the load weighs. It's their truck. When I was switching from my work truck to this Bronco Sport, I worried for a second about loads. Then a woman I know asked, "How many times did you uses your truck to move a heavy load?" I got her point. My number was less than a dozen. I had a 5.2L V8. I hardly used it. Load haulers can be so easily rented. That's what I did when the job was billable. Why not now?

I did once badly overload my son's 1/2 ton GMC with a load of sand and although I drove carefully, a few weeks later his axle fell out in the middle of an intersection.
Ah yes, but correlation does not = causation.

Yeah, that might have been a factor...

We used to own a 1985 Toyota 'Truck' (that was their creative name for it before Takoma). There was no recycling pickup back then, so when we had several trash cans full we'd haul it to the recycling center. There was a quarry on the way. On the way back we'd stop there and get some #2 stone to line our blacktop lane.

We had to weigh empty and full of course, even though it was something like $6 worth of stone. The max load rating for that little pickup was ~1,400 lbs. We typically used every bit of that, maybe a few hundred pounds more. We loaded the stone as far forward as we could but still ended up with most of the load on the rear axle -- very little suspension travel left. It is about 15 miles from the quarry to our house.

We did that about 10-12 times. There were several other loads that were at or a bit over the 1,400 lbs.

When we finally got rid of that truck it had ~160,000 miles on it. We had stopped using it because the frame rotted out -- otherwise it looked good and ran great.

It's no wonder that the Toyota Truck is the favorite of radical terrorist groups around the world.

Has anyone taken trips in the Bronco Sport with five adults and luggage?
I don't need to look at a door jam sticker to tell me that I don't want to go take 5 adults in my bronco sport any farther than to the local lunch place. 4? Possibly, but 5? Nope.

4 adult men are 800 lbs easy. Enough to reach the weight limit indicated on my Bronco's door label. I still can´t belive it.

I sometimes think that the guys that load the sand and gravel get a kick out of dumping an entire bucket into your truck or trailer. They once filled my little trailer so full that the axle bent and the tires were rubbing on the sides of the trailer. They don't need to fill the entire bucket, but they always do.

You know you're over weight when the leaf springs are bent the opposite way.

That sucks.

The guys that loaded us were good -- they'd approach the gravel pile at an angle and get maybe 1/5 of a bucket and then dump it very slowly, watching the leaf springs.

We had a piece of plywood we leaned against the cab to protect it, so they could dump the gravel as far forward as possible.

<Dealer> "Oh, you want to carry 3 passengers AND their cargo?! That's risking all kinds of damage that will not be covered under warranty. Your best bet is to get one of your passengers to follow you in their vehicle..."
