My reason for the six month limit is: I will reach my mileage limit well before I reach six months.
Now concerning my 62 Galaxy with the V8. I let it go well beyond six months as I drive it less than 4K a year now. Same with all the other fluids in it. It is in a semi-climate controlled garage. My Bronco on the other hand is outside and is driven 7 days a week. Not only do I change the oil regulary, I spray graphite on every moving suspension part, inspect the brakes, check for loose shields and panels, etc. etc. Not saying that if my Bronco was just sitting there like my Galaxy I would let it the oil changes go for over six months, I probably would. I just like to keep everything current, some call it overkill, I don't drive it hard so spending a little extra to keep it looking and running good is an investment to me. I'm keeping it for the long term, if I was trading out every 3 years I would look at my schedule a little differently.
