Big red warning message

I had a big red warning message take over my center screen while I was driving. It wasn’t up long enough for me to read completely but it had something to do with low voltage detected. Since it went away, I just ignored it. Now it has happened a second time - again just flashes up and goes away. I wondered if it could be related to the NHTSA#25S02/25V019 recall I have been hearing so much about so I took my vehicle to a local dealership so they could pull up the error code and see what it was. They told me that the codes expire after a couple of restarts so it was likely deleted. They also said that it wouldn’t matter anyway because the recall has no solution so they couldn’t do anything. The dealership was, however, willing to make an appointment for a diagnostic with the caveat that I would need to pay $175 if they didn't find anything wrong or if they found something that was unrelated to the recall. I think I am better off applying that $175 toward a new battery but I am left feeling like Ford just doesn’t have much concern for my safety. Since I was not able to read my warning message, I would be very interested to know if others have experienced any sort of similar red warning box popping up and what it said.

And if out of warranty and the battery is actually bad another owner just posted this week he had the dealership install a new EFB Battery: Ford has the parts for Recall 25S02

I am assuming you have an EFB battery. If you think it is the battery the dealer might test the battery for free. My dealer does. Ask them to test the battery if EFB they should replace it with an AGM under the recall if not replace it and then deal with who is paying to replace it as described below.

Ford Remedy from NHTSA#25S02/25V019 that you mentioned above.
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their vehicle inspected for the presence of a Ford Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) 12V battery. If there is not a Ford AGM battery present, one will be installed. There will be no charge for this service. Ford provided the general reimbursement plan for the cost of remedies paid for by vehicle owners prior to notification of a safety recall in May 2023. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accordance with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA

If I get a new battery should I get an AGM type? I was reading that they are superior in many ways but can be sensitive to overcharging. Wonder if my BB will have the necessary charge control to properly manage an AGM battery …

Yes. Go with the AGM.

The AGM battery technology is designed for vehicles with auto start/stop.

If you use your Ford dealer, you may have a chance for some reimbursement because of the battery recall. But, 3 years use on a battery is considered a good amount of time.

And check if recall 25S02 applies to your vehicle - if your current battery is the factory installed EFB (battery) from a specific chinese manufacturer (listed in the recall), your replacement motorcraft AGM Battery is no cost to you

I own a 2022 Outer Banks with 26,000 miles on it. I am now on my THIRD battery, all still under warranty and replaced by the Ford dealership.

The first time the battery died overnight while parked in my garage. After towing it to the dealership, they tested it and couldn't get it to "Fail" so they wouldn't replace it. In the weeks following, it would stall out occasionally at stoplights when the auto stop/start function turned off the motor (so I would manually turn off this feature to keep it from stalling).

The second time it failed was related to the bigger issue I am having, the WATER PUMP valve leaking. When I took it into the Ford dealership for the dead battery, they told me they noticed it leaking so they replaced it. Three weeks later when trying to start it up, the engine wouldn't turn over, then the electrical panel on the dashboard started going haywire, then the engine started smoking. The new water pump they had installed had completely failed and blew coolant all over everything. Trip #2 to a different Ford dealership - where they replaced the water pump AND the battery (all still under warranty).

THIRD time it failed, I was driving and losing power when accelerating uphill. The battery light went on with the engine/battery warning light. Luckily I had enough power to make it to the Ford dealership, and they replaced the battery. AGAIN.

The most recent one they replaced (Oct.) was the AGM type. Since then I received the recall notice in Feb. and have been told the parts are not yet available in my area, but it appears from this forum that is the correct and new battery that it should be according to the recall. I sure hope so.

And “just like magic” when I went to the government website just to confirm for a second time that the recall does involve my vehicle … I see that Ford has updated the info!

Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and replace the 12V battery if necessary free of charge

Guess what I will be doing first thing Monday morning!!

I had a very similar experience. Picked up the Bronco brand new from dealer drove it down the freeway and I saw this menu about charging came on and went off in seconds. Called dealer and they thought it was possibility just a glitch. It is never happened since, but in my opinion after much thought, and reading it all comes down to being the batteries. This one was produced June 24th 2024 and already came with the new ASB battery. I think what's happening with the newer vehicles is they have so much of a drain on a battery even when they're sitting in the driveway. It's about battery usage. We're using more of the battery that we're giving back. Takes a long time for a battery to charge fully, you can let it sit in the driveway for 3 to 4 days and then crank it up and take it for a half an hour spin and bring it back it's not charging the battery. A good idea is to get a charge trickler, or every once awhile take it for a 2-hour drive. After doing this I have not seen that menu at all, the trickler is showing me that it does drain quickly and needs to be recharged. On the day of purchase at the dealership, I don't think the dealer had fully charged that battery before I came in and bought it. They really didn't know I was coming in and I put the deal together quickly, brought it home put it on the trickler and it was at about 50%, it takes hours to charge a battery, and very difficult to take a very good battery and get it to a full charge state. Since I've been taking these precautions I have not seen any repeats of any problems and the BS is doing very well.

Just thought I would post an update - I took my BS to the dealership this morning (since there is now a fix for the NHTSA#25S02/25V019 recall). I received a new Motorcraft AGM battery no questions asked! All that was necessary was a visual inspection to verify that I had one of the faulty batteries! I was absolutely going to buy a battery myself so I am really glad I held off for a couple days! If your vehicle is affected by this recall better go get your new battery ASAP … before Ford changes their mind! ?
