I’m experiencing a recurring issue with the Auto Hold feature on my 2023 Ford Bronco Sport. When activated, it occasionally triggers a grinding noise from the brakes and abruptly halts the car just as I begin to accelerate. This happens both when shifting from Reverse to Drive without a complete stop, and even after coming to a full stop before accelerating again.
One particularly concerning instance occurred in heavy freeway traffic. I was inching forward using only the brake without ever fully stopping, yet the Auto Hold feature activated unexpectedly. I heard the grinding noise, and the vehicle suddenly came to a complete stop—almost causing an accident.

My Ford dealer could not recreate the issue and could not fix it. I took it 2 times already and mentioned it several others. The adviser told me to take videos as proof, but they were not useful last visit.

Does anyone else has this issue?

Which trim level BS do you have?

Have you had any work done on it recently, or did this just seem to happen out of the blue?

I don't know if your dealer put a scanner on it to see if any codes were thrown, but seeing if there are any DTC's would be informative. There are a number of faults that can cause this, including wheel speed sensors, parking brake switch issues, some specific driving actions, and low battery voltage.

Some users have reported disconnecting the battery at the negative terminal for a several minutes and reconnecting have cleared similar reported issues with auto hold, as it forces several modules to reset and as appropriate relearn.

Until you get this resolved, I would recommend not using it for obvious reasons.

I have a 2023 Big Bend; I hadn't use Auto Hold in almost a year, but I wanted video proof of when it happens, so I have been turning it on lately only in the street, I'm afraid to use it in the freeway. I first took it for this issue at 7275 miles.
At 7066 miles they did the Recall 24S24 for the Body Control Module. At 7275 when I took it for the Auto Hold grinding, they found a coolant leak and electrical issues with the infotainment. They could not recreate the Auto Hold grinding. At 14940 they replaced the Rear Shocks under warranty. At 16652 miles still under warranty, they replaced both Rear Brake Calipers and Brake Pads. The latest service was at 18569 under warranty they replaced the Front Brake Pads and Machined Rotors, recalibrated the Sync because my infotainment was shutting down or getting stocked with the reverse camara, and also checked again the Auto Hold issue mentioned with the videos. They could not recreate the grinding, and I feel like they did not look into it.
I love my Bronco, but I don't like how I have a feature I can't use due to safety concerns.

Have they replaced the original battery with an AGM (25S02)? Even though 24S24 corrected the reporting problem, they still had wonky EFB batteries (Camel) still going bad.

Not that I think it's necessarily the battery, but I'd suggest checking to see if yours was subject to the recall.

You can look it up with either your VIN or license plate here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

If you haven't already, you may want to look at this thread: https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/recall-25v46-nhtsa-25s76-ford-fuel-injectors-my21-24-1-5l-i3-engine.16650/page-2#post-263595

There's a lot of ranting going on towards the end, but some good info nonetheless.
