I need to use a shorty antenna instead of the Factory one to get into my garage. The factory one is 8 inches and I will need to change to a 4 inch. A ford tech told me that the antenna is only used for am/fm radio. Can anyone verify this for sure?

Correct, the screw-in stick antenna is just for AM/FM. You can ditch it entirely if you never listen to radio, or find an aftermarket shorter antenna. I believe some folks have done that without much loss in reception.

That is great. I noticed that there are a number of length options, Usually the length affects reception, and 4" might be a good option for some ppl.
