Got our BL about a month ago and totally love it. Noticed something strange though: I always keep the climate control on the lowest “Auto” setting and just adjust the temperature up or down a few degrees as needed. For the past few weeks, when starting the car just the regular climate control would be on—without A/C, which is exactly what I want most of the year. But starting this week, all of a sudden the A/C turns on by itself every time we start the car. Anyone know what the heck is going on? Does the car assume we want A/C because it’s starting to get warmer out? Didn’t see any relevant settings in the infotainment

Not sure if our BS's have an outside temp sensor, but if so, maybe it's reading that the outside temps are getting warmer, and therefore switching on the A/C based on your lower temp setting.

Why not just turn up the temp? Set it at 74-76 and see what happens.

BTW, the A/C compressor probably runs a lot more than you think, even when it's cold outside. The system will run the A/C compressor to dry out air directed to the windshield to aid in defogging.

I was told this by an auto A/C person as well. He said that whenever the defrost was engaged, the A/C compressor ran to run oil through the compressor to keep the seals from drying out. You simply adjusted the temp to get warm(er) air to the ducts).

Mine does the same here in Arizona but only when the interior temp is higher than the temp I have set on the climate control.

fascinating. I wonder if that’s the key. It’s so strange to me, but this does seem like the most likely explanation

Thanks to everyone else who responded too btw — I do know that the compressor runs when air is directed at the windshield. That’s common. But I’ve never before had the A/C turn itself on or off based just on the interior temperature (and when air is not directed at the windshield).

I like many of the other features like the engine shut off and the brake hold option. Guess I’ll get used to this feature too.

my only real dislike about the car so far is the touchy brakes. I’ll post about this in another thread when I get a chance
