Here's a Bronco Sport next to a 2020 Explorer for size comparison. Best I could get with the shaky camera and the distance from which it was filmed. Quick video too.

The painted bumpers could make this is a Badlands trim model.

The dealer system showed body color painted bumpers as one of the Badlands Package features - https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/bronco-sport-now-in-dealer-system-revealing-trims-colors-packages-options-engines-transmission.1042/

I'm surprised how big it looks next to the Explorer. Is it really that tall?

The new Escape is 66” tall the new Explorer is 70” tall. I’d be willing to bet the Bronco sport is close to 68”

The first Gen Escape is listed as 69” tall (not sure if that includes the roof rails or not.?),
2010 Escape lost an inch to 67.9”
....what’s old is new again.

Where did you see these vehicles? In Nebraska?
I found the video on Facebook. I believe it was originally taken just northwest of Derroit.

Got it. I am curious what vehicle they are benchmarking or if they are going to try and just set out to create a new benchmark with the Bronco Sport.

I'd probably say the Compass, Renegade, and Cherokee. The Explorer is more competitive with the Grand Cherokee. And the Bronco with the Wrangler/Gladiator.

Don't forget their Italian cousin: Fiat 500X. All are derived from FCA's Small Wide 4X4 platform

I keep thinking it has to be the new RAV4 as well, epsecially since there are now 'Adventure' and 'TRD Off-Road' trim levels.

The Bronco Sport is supposed to be more than a cosmetic package. Inline or better than the Trailhawk Jeeps. TRD should be ashamed the “off-road” package they have for the Rav4. You might as well put AT tires on any other Rav4 and pocket the money you saved.

You are not wrong, at least the Trailhawk has different suspension, a locker, skidplates, actual recovery hooks, etc. The RAV4 only claims to have 'TRD-tuned suspension'. That being said, for your normal layperson, they are going to cross shop them because of size, available 4wd, and the fact that they are off-road oriented. These are the same people that buy a AWD Subaru to go to the snow once every two years though....

Looking at the allegedly "leaked" specs, the Sport is shaping up to be "all hat and no cattle" IMO. There has been nothing that I've seen on this forum to suggest that it will be anything more than a rebodied and maybe mildly lifted C2 Escape. Nothing about lockers, suspension differences, or drivetrain tuning, If you compare the information here with the Bronco site, there is nothing to compare. Perhaps the leaks here are meant to be disinformation, but what we know so far suggests to me that the Sport will only be rugged looking. 1.5l 3cyl/ 8spd with only P-R-N-D-L dial shift? Really?
