Well, you know these car advertising and branding people know what we want before we do. I am sure they have the "what the consumer needs to know and what we should call it to maximize profit" ratio all built in.
Sure, I was just trying to relate that the first time I heard the term AWD it was with the Audi Quattro and for a long time I thought it meant that the car was always driving all four wheels, but that there was a differential system that would prevent binding at high speeds. But I think for...
Yes, for me AWD meant full time 4wd like in the old Audi Quattro, or at least that is what I thought it meant. Sometime later they came out with the intelligent slip AWD systems that started to put power to non slipping wheels (I think Subaru was the first to market and build that). Now they...
So there is just no way to install real front tow hooks on the lower trims safely and easily. That is too bad. Thanks for the advice, I am not a heavy off reader but did buy a hook for the rear and have a tow strap. I think sand would be only thing I would potentially get stuck in. The ramps and...
Thanks to all for the advice here. Did you all see the post on here where someone installed recovery hooks on their big bend (I think there were made for jeep cherokee but they fit with some work). Anyway, I thought the bolts that they used to attach it were kinda small, but I am novice here...
I really like my Big Bend. Great mix of every day driver that looks cool and can handle the off pavement and snow if needed. I drive up grades at high elevations at freeway speed just fine, get decent mileage on the road and have a lot of confidence when I am off the pavement. Just got back from...
Wow, first I have not heard about a solution to the brake pad issue. The last update I got was that they were still trying to figure out what to do. Mine definitely squeak/grunt on backing out first thing in the morning, then I don't notice anything after that. It doesn't bother me too much...
How do you like those tires? I am thinking of going with those too. I absolutely love the BFG All Terrain tires but they are expensive and a little more than I need (probably). I am not a serious off roader, and my Big Bend is also my every day driver. I just want to be confident on most forest...
I would think about it because with a full size spare (which I think is pretty important) your storage space is reduced just a little bit. If you removed the spare altogether you could use that space for some stuff and maximize the above floor cover space. That would be my reasoning anyway. It...
I did see that in the owners manual, (pg 252 for mine) and it describes the fixed front recovery hooks that I am assuming are in the higher trim models. I cannot find a small square door in the front bumper. Rear, yes, but not front that I can see.
I ended up just getting a 5th wheel on ebay....so it will just be the same wheel, didn't think about weight in the spare so we will see if it really affects mileage or not after I drive the stock tires down and get new ones.
Did you end up changing it out? I am thinking about doing the same thing, putting the best continental as a full spare. The continentals won't fit the spare thought, right, you had to get a new wheel?
Thanks for sharing, just ordered one. Seems a real oversight that Ford did not include this AND did not include any front recovery points in the lower trims. I
I learned to drive in an 87 Bronco II, Eddie Bauer package. I really loved that car but it was underpowered and difficult to drive on the road and when it got older all kinds of battery drain and electrical problems made it unreliable. I drove that car all through the Sierras and Death Valley...
But there has to be some recovery points somewhere, right? Is the screw in hook with the spare tire stuff or in the spare tire compartment? I cannot find information in the owners manual either,
So, (and let me say I have a pretty basic knowledge of off-roading so this might be too simple and I am trying to understand what the different modes really do in the big bend specifically) from what I have read here and on other forums, is it fair to say that in Normal Mode the computer can...
Did a trop from Sedona to Grand Canyon to Cameron back to Sedona. So not all flat but not exactly all 75mph freeway either. On that trip I got about 36.5 mpg....driving the posted speed limit. So pretty good.
