Do you give it enough throttle to upshift? I notice on mine, that when approaching steep hills, it feels like a locked torque converter on a truck. Enough throttle and it’ll downshift then give you some boost. If you’re pressing the pedal all the way down, then there’s a problem.
I'd agree minus the water pump issue. Don't like having to check my coolant level every week and worrying about it. If there was a low coolant sensor, I'd feel a little better.
It’s not really fear mon
They definitely fixed the coolant intrusion issues by redesigning the block and leaving the sidewalls thick while adding slimmer water jackets.
The main issues on the 1.5 3cyl are:
- Water pumps failing
- Lack of belt tensioner
- Pretty bad vibrations at low speeds...
Seems these water pump issues come in waves. I’d love to know the true cause. My limited engineering background* suggests that the lack of belt tensioner puts too much stress on the water pump, especially the horrible vibrations at lower rpm’s.

Never heard of a dealer outright refusing to purchase a specific model though.
Trying hard to love my Big Bend, but it’s difficult. I’ve said it before, but the build quality is downright awful. Not sure about the Badlands, but I’m looking to test drive one and dump this thing next week. The...
Seems the only correct choice when purchasing a BS is the Badlands. Spoke to a few dealers after hearing the rumor - it’s true for 3 of the 5 I called.
“We have too many on the lot, can’t use it right now.”
”a lot of people are trading them towards Badlands models.”
”We can, but you would be...
my dealer is super friendly to tunes. My 2018 F-150 had a dialed in tune by Josh at 5 Star, I'd trust them over ANY tuning company.
The 1.5 definitely has more power on tap - they're getting close to 200hp per cylinder on the 1.6 Toyota 3 banger. Eco boost is Mazda tech and should hold up fine...
