Installed the Rough Country 1.5 lifted struts and upgraded the OEM Continental tires to Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T 245/65r17 tires (bought off eBay) ... Are both upgrades, added about 3 inches... After driving a bit I'm sure it'll be a little less than that... Offroad tire installer said the setup was perfect for the BS... That just reinforced I made the right choices... Now to get ready for trail season...

I've been trying to tell people for 3+ years on this forum: The Mickey Thompsons are the best tire to get for form and function. They are a bit heavier, but they look leagues better than any other A/T offering. I basically have the exact same setup.

Unless or until someone (Are you listening BFG?) offers a similar sized (245) MUD tire, with large open lugs; I will likely eventually end up with a set of MT's.

The straight sidewall is a real down check as it will likely reduce flotation ability in mud, sand and snow.

... the restrictive design of these vehicles really limits choices/options/Satisfaction.

Enjoy

Looks fantastic! I’ve got a Badlands I’ve been wanting to lift for a while and might bite the bullet on that soon. Do your tires rub at all? Did you have to cut anything to make them fit with the lift, or no? I’ve heard sometimes people have to cut certain things when using that tire size, but that might be without the lift.

No rubbing with the lift... But also haven't had the car stressed/compressed...but still don't see them rubbing.

As far as the lift, I went with the Rough Country lifted strut package... All springs and struts, no spacers, reuse 95% of the OEM bolts.. Install instructions were fine until the torque specs... Googled correct ones for OEM bolts

There is no rubbing at all. I have had the same setup for 60,000 miles. Also the tread is holding up fantastic and I can likely get at least 15,000-20,000 miles out of them.

That's good tread wear

I was looking at those tires . If I lived in a drier climate that didn't get the occasional snow (and I do go over some mountain passes) I'd probably have them at the top of the list. I think they'd be one of the very best in anything but snow and ice.

I must have had my head someplace dark when I posted this and forgot what I was babbling about. Because apparently I was very wrong.

They are 3 peak rated and I live in Indiana. They trudge through 11" of snow with no problem and I've never had an issue with ice either.

Then I'm having an idiot moment haha.... for some reason I was thinking there weren't 3PMSF. I might have been thinking of one of the others I was looking at.

This does move them to second place then behind the Noian nAT I finally settled on. From what I've read these are likely much better than the KO3 I used to think I wanted.

How are they on wet pavement?

From my personal experience they are good. They have large irregular tread for water evacuation. I only notice lack of traction when I am purposely driving like a tool. As an A/T tire, they of course, tend to perform worse than specific on-road tires. It's a trade-off with the design of the tire.

This is from the tirerack test with other tires. The only one that scored higher was the Goodyear workhorse.

"Wet Track: The front end felt eager, direct, and pointy. If braking was timed just right, we could carry a surprising amount of speed and carve a clean line through corners, but that was more the exception than the rule. Too often it was off the mark and pushing, or the rear spun up under throttle; in the slalom it needed more steering input than expected. A decent effort overall, but with clear limits."

Great to know about these MT tires, I really like the look of them but got KO2’s when I swapped mine (30k miles ago). I’ll most likely give them a shot when I replace mine! also thanks for the info about the lift and rubbing. I’ve been wanting to get a lift and that size tire since I got my Bronco but haven’t had the money till now to pull the trigger.
