I have tracked my trade-ins for years. Just watch the used cards listings on the dealer's website.

It's interesting to see how long the trade-in sits on the lot, and watch their asking price over time. They originally listed my '21 Ranger for about $9K more than they gave me, but it sat on the lot for about 6 weeks and the final asking price was only $1K more than they gave me, and the CARFAX report showed that they replaced 4 tires and rear shocks... so they lost money on it.

Either it sold, or they sent it to auction. My store will keep a trade for 60-90 days before sending it to auction if it doesn't sell and most dealers have similar practices.

And yet car prices still climb. I still can't understand why a platinum expedition would go for 100k. Or a f250 with 75k goes for 65. Insane what they ask for cars nowadays.
