So, on May 21st, 2025, my wife's BSBB died while we were running errands. I used a jump pack we keep in the car, got it started, and made another stop. Battery was dead again. Jumped again and stopped by a local shop to check the battery. Battery is bad so we get a new AGM battery installed for $270.
Fast forward to August. We get a recall reminder dated August 2025 for a defective battery.
Today we take the BS in for the PCM recall, oil change/tire rotation, and to see if Ford will help reimburse the cost of the battery we just purchased 3 1/2 months ago. The dealership was great about everything and said they would submit it to Ford.
My wife gets a call from the service advisor to update her on the status of her BS. She was informed that since the recall came out in April of 2025, less than one month before the battery died and was replaced, that Ford will not reimburse the cost due to the battery being replaced by an independent shop AFTER the recall was announced.
We never received a recall notice prior to the battery going bad and the battery was replaced with an equivalent to the ford battery. Had we known, we would have gone to the Ford dealership and had it taken care of at no cost.
And to add the icing on the cake, the dealership further stated that they cannot clear the recall on the BS unless they replace the new battery we just paid for, with another new Ford battery.
So I guess I said all of this to say that if your battery dies, go straight to your dealership and save $270. 😡

On my 2021 BL the original battery(FLA) was replaced under warranty with an AGM. Because of the PCM & BCM recalls and battery issues this AGM took a dump also.

I replaced it myself with an AGM from Walmart, 4 year full replacement.

Went to the dealer after the latest recall and they told me the same thing. We'll have to replace it and take your 2 month old battery and recycle it. No options to clear the recall without replacing my new battery.

No thanks. My recalls shows open.

They said I could submit the original receipt to Ford and see if they will reimburse me. My cost for replacing it was $212. Not sure it's worth the hassle with the possibility of Ford losing the receipt even though they said it will be returned.

I tried to go through Ford for reimbersment, but they said I would have to have the dealer submit the claim, and that I would be reimbursed through the dealer (I have the receipt).
The dealer also agreed that this was the process, but Ford denied reimbursement because I had replaced the battery less than a month after the recall was announced.

My dealer told me I had to write the letter & enclose the original receipt.

Maybe tomorrow it will be something different.

If your state has a good consumer protection agency I would submit a complaint through them. Good luck.

I have went through the same thing other than my flooded battery died a few days after the PCM/BCM recall update and several months before the battery recall came out. I replaced it with an AGM battery to the tune of $260. I was told by Ford directly and as well at the dealership that unless I had the battery was replaced by a Ford dealership that I would not reimbursed. My service writer at the dealership told me just keep the recall open until it is time to replace my current AGM battery then bring the vehicle in for the recall and get the free replacement. So guess that recall will stay open for several years.

I wish our advisor was like that.
