I just had my first oil change. I guess I must have been dreaming because I thought I had read somewhere that it was $39. My cost was $79 out the door here in Georgia. I used my points but still was surprised. What are others paying the dealer for an oil change?

I will likely do the next one myself. I thought $39 sounded like a good deal ..... $79 not so much.

I see it on sale for 39.00. I’ve gotten free oil changes on my Escape since new (free oil changes for life). They won’t do that deal again with me since I’m buying from another dealer.

I was doing it every 3k when I only drove 3 miles each way to work. Now every 5k but they also rotate the tires for free as a way to get me to buy tires from them. They did offer a very good deal on tires. Matched Discount Tires price + 10% off that.

My came to $59.90 but I just used my Ford Pass points (12,270 Points) and it didn't cost me anything.
Why didn't you use your points?

I did use my points, just double what I was expecting.

hmm
Back in the day, it was ~$40. They often had rebates for $10, or $15 if you took it as points on your Owner Advantage Rewards account (predecessor to FordPass Rewards).

Now it's more like $60-70 near me and I haven't seen a rebate in years.

Also, FYI, the points are essentially worth 0.5¢/ea, so 42,000 points from purchasing a vehicle is equivalent to $210 to spend at a Ford dealer (subject to change at any time). When they chose that number, it was good for about 4 oil changes (~$50/ea).

My came to $59.90 but I just used my Ford Pass points (12,270 Points) and it didn't cost me anything.
Sounds like it was $61.35 with tax (12270 points * $0.005/point). Sounds about right.

FYI! If you receive a coupon in the mail that can be used towards an oil change, you can use that and then use your FPR points for the balance. So if they mail you a $10 off coupon, you get $10 off and then use points for the rest - you can double dip like that.

Ok... I understand but for the works my tires were rotated, brakes and fluids checked. I mean a little more than just an oil change. I'm not really sure why yours cost $79 dollars.

For the 1st service on my Badlands I had the works oil change package done. They did more than just change the oil, they check all the scheduled maintenance items. They use Ford/Motorcraft oil, filter and parts as needed and record the services performed in the service history of the Ford Pass app.
I had a coupon, which made my service cost $73.00 out the door, I think it was a good deal and I will do it again.

1st oil change is free and my next two were $39.00 each.
Factory spec oil and filter. They check all the fluids, they skip the battery and do that every other time. And they rotate my tires every time as I do 5,000 mile intervals.
It’s called the works I think to help you swallow the $79 for the full synthetic.
I prefer to change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals to get the In solution contamination out sooner, (the stuff that passes through the filter with the oil).
This negates the value of the longer life full synthetic.

What was the breakdown between parts and labor? My guess is that Motorcraft is very proud of its semi-synthetic oil.

The dealer I work for charges 39.95 if you bought the car from us and 49.95 if it was bought elsewhere

$80 sounds like a lot to me. 5.5 Quarts at $6/quart plus the oil filter is close to $45. These are Walmart prices for Motorcraft oil and I'm sure a dealer gets better prices than them. Add the 25 min labor charge for a total of $55-$60 oil change. This is before ford points.

I figured they were price gouging because it was the dealership. I paid the same as you for the works on my Big Bend the other day. When he rang me up I thought to myself, I won’t be back here after my points are gone….
I pay 55 at jiffy lube for drive up service and haven’t had a bad experience. I used to do my own oil changes but with the filter, oil, and disposal fee it’s easier just to pay to get it done.

Business's do have overhead, of course it's going to cost more to have them perform the service vs. doing it yourself.
I used to change my own oil, got tired of doing it, now days it's more of a hassle.

Dude, not even. The dealer gets better prices on Motorcraft stuff over Walmart but they are most certainly NOT going to pass that savings onto you. I will agree the max should be around $60.

If you hunt, you can get everything for just a hair under $40 - maybe less if you stock up on oil during black Friday/holiday season.

Currently, Walmart has a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 (full synthetic, not Ford's semi) for $27. During the holiday season I've seen them bring it down to about $20 (i have bought a ton during that time). The filter is $3.97-ish and an extra quart is $8. You're looking at $39 bucks for every other oil change and $31 for the others, since you should still have half a quart left from previous oil change.

I used to change my own oil but found that paying a place like Express Oil Change $25 to do it, so long as I provide the oil/filter, comes out to be the best bang for my money and I save 30+ minutes from crawling under a car. In total, I pay around $55-$60, including good Mobil 1 oil and a Motorcraft filter and a small military discount, and just have EOC change it.
