I just confirmed that the revised MPC 2.0 liter MPC engine in 2025 Badland models do NOT have a gasoline particulate filter and has the full 250 hp. Also confirmed with Ford customer service that the 2025 2.0 has 250 hp and the torque increased from 277 to 280 lb/feet. Also the highway mpg rating went up from 26 to 27 mpg. I looked under my 2025 Badlands to confirm that there is not a GPF! Check out this video for more details.

Might think about the increased torque impact on the 8F35 transmission which already has a mismatch in spec ratings for the pre 2025 vehicles (2.0L engine)

The torque increased by only 3 lb/ft. Should be fine?

IDK the margin Ford has with the 8F35 transmission

if the 8F35 torque rating is at 260 lb-ft. and the MPC engine is at 280 (@4500 rpm??), (260-280)/260 says the 280 is 7.7% over the 260 8f35 spec

Is that enough to damage the 8f35, do people actually run at 4500 max torque long enough to damage the 8f35, does the 2025 Bronco Sport even use the 8f35 transmission? I have no answers to any of those questions.

I've not seen anything online regarding torque-related failures of the 8F35 transmission. Has anyone else?

I have not and I searched. There are owners that report their transmission and/or torque converter failed but I’ve seen no root causes. Some have blamed it on plastic parts in the 8f35 but I have no direct knowledge if the 8f35 contains plastic parts and don’t know if those are a cause of failure or not

The discussion has occurred on the forum before - a mismatch in specs between engine and transmission (I posted a link above to one thread but there are others)

I’ve seen nothing that says ford does not (or does) have margin in the 8f35 transmission specs.

this is strictly a discussion about the specs - no fingers being pointed.

I’m glad that Ford decided not to use a gasoline particulate filter on these engines. Happy to have all the power also, actually a slight bit more.

The trans for the bronco sport is the same as the Maverick and we have multiple people pushing tons of power.
My badlands is tuned on a stock cobb 93 tune but will get a full custom tune after. Point is even with the extra weight of the badlands vs the Maverick and with my 245 tires my tune is producing about 325ft lb of torque and no issue whatso ever and ive been tuned for about almost 20k miles.

Yes I have seen other owners report about the power their tune generates

However my post only is in regards to a spec mismatch between what a stock ‘21-‘24 2.0L can generate (at 4500tpm) vs the published 8f35 transmission spec.

I am making no claim that the spec mismatch is a real issue but it is a spec mismatch regardless. No one except Ford knows how much margin is in these specs.

I think that spec mismatch was spoken of by cobb which might be why on their performance tcm tune it removed 2nd gear all together sending you from 1st to 3rd might have to relook at the details

I am hoping the 2025 Maverick XLT AWD 2.0 Eco Boost i'm picking up Today is the same as the Video above 250 HP and 277-280 lb.ft of Torque.

So the 2025 2.0l is better than the previous 2021-2024 2.0l engine?! Is it worth the upgrade?!
I do drive a 2023 BS BL, I'm looking into the 2025 BS BL with no Sas package... let me know!

Not sure if it's better or not i guess only time will tell i'm pretty sure the Power and Torque Ratings are the same.
