Dishonest shops will squirt oil on shocks in an attempt to sell you new shocks to make money. Wipe shocks clean drive a bit and check them yourself later.

These are not shocks that are specially made by Ford for the Bronco Sport. Sounds like a supplier issue and they should cover it. If they are defective then the entire production lot will be recalled even if they were put on various vehicles.
The Bronco Sport suspension is different from other models based on the C2 platform. You can read more about it here.

Shop owner(s) who are that unethical and dishonest should be subjected to:

1) Civil suits
2) Criminal prosecution -- including significant fines and/or prison time
3) A lifetime ban from operating a repair shop

We should have no tolerance for behavior like that. It is 'punching down' -- taking advantage of people who are trusting and less knowledgeable about cars.

What if a doctor, dentist, or attorney were to scam a patient or client that way? "Mrs. Jones, I'm afraid you have a malignant tumor. We must operate immediately..."

From the linked article:

"Badlands and First Edition models expand Bronco Sport performance further, with the addition of hydraulic rebound stops that rapidly increase control at the end stop to reduce the jarring impact of rugged terrain. Upgraded 46-millimeter diameter rear monotube shocks are specially tuned for Badlands and First Edition models and further help improve off-road control and comfort.

More compliant front and rear anti-roll bars and springs were selected for the high-capability Badlands and First Edition models to increase off-road articulation. Badlands and First Edition models also include larger all-terrain, thick-sidewall tires. Badlands models come standard with 28.5-inch Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires, while 29-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires with thick sidewall treads are optional on Badlands and standard on First Edition models.

Longer springs on Badlands and First Edition models also contribute to improved off-road metrics. Bronco Sport features a maximum running ground clearance of 8.8 inches when riding on available 29-inch all-terrain tires, unsurpassed in the non-premium subcompact utility class."

A new dentist bought the practice I worked in. She who would claim cavities where there were none on the x-rays. Drill 'em and fill 'em. Very bad. When I caught on, before I left spent two weeksI telling my patients to go to another dentist for a 'second opinion.' She'd drill teeth in mouths that never had a cavity. A nightmare and fraud. This wasn't even one of those chain store type dentistry outfits! Scary!

A story not germane to shocks I realize.

That's a good, if outrageous, example. What I wrote above applies even more so because she's working on people:

[Dentists] who are that unethical and dishonest should be subjected to:

1) Civil suits
2) Criminal prosecution -- including significant fines and/or prison time
3) A lifetime ban from [practicing dentistry].

UPDATE: The Ford service and dealer where I go isn’t shady. I have taken my vehicles there since 2012. Additionally, they looked at the shocks again and will replace them under warranty.
Thanks for everyone who responded.
Squeaky wheel gets the oil.
Or leaky shocks get... warranty replaced. Is that how the saying goes?

Glad the dealer took another look and is properly taking care of the issue.

Happens all the time. Let the buyer beware.

I agree with your suggestions on those that get caught, unfortunately, they most likely will go back and do it again. Scum.

I gave my 2006 Escape to my step son. He took it to a shop to get some work done and they told him the rear shocks were shot and needed replacement and shouldn't be driven. Except I just replaced them around 4 years ago but it sat for the last two years. I checked them they are absolutely fine. It's pretty obvious when a shock is bad. Remember, Weep-age is normal, leakage is not.

We hear "buyer beware" all the time. Of course that's good advice, but not everyone has the knowledge or intellect to 'beware.'

For example, what I wrote above:

"What if a doctor, dentist, or attorney were to scam a patient or client that way? "Mrs. Jones, I'm afraid you have a malignant tumor. We must operate immediately..."

"Buyer beware" simply doesn't apply.

Upon hearing that a surgeon or dentist was doing unnecessary surgery, the state should yank their license and prosecute them.

There's always a chance that a criminal will repeat their crime, but life in prison without parole for a subsequent (or 3rd) offense would put a stop to that.

The principle is the same with auto repair or any other service. It's easy for those of us who know something about cars to think the customer should have known better (because it is "common knowledge" to us) but the bottom line is that people simply cannot be expected to be well informed about:

* Home building/remodeling
* Electrical/plumbing work
* Auto repair
* The legal system
* Dentistry
* Anatomy and physiology
* Etc., etc.

Incompetence is one thing, but if a professional intentionally LIES to a customer/client, takes advantage of their lack of knowledge, that cannot be brushed off.

The fact that it happens all the time doesn't make it right.

Well then, simply do not buy, or hire anyone to do work for you. If you don't want to do any "homework" in checking their credentials or work ethics, join forums and read about potential issues as most do here, or contact friends who can be more knowledgeable than yourself, then as I stated, let the buyer beware.
