Why does Ford Pass tell me 0% oil life and urgent warning at 3000 miles since last oil change. My vehicle shows 29% and approximately 2000k left till my next 5000k oil change...and since I'm here...what is the correct oil change under "normal" driving...3k, 5k, 10k with the ford recommended oil? Ot is confusing in the manual. And again... while I am here why are my rear brakes still squealing like a bat out of hell when I back up even at 13000 miles after having them changed at the time of the recall...its half time if the All-State sugarbowl..geaux ...I am not going to divulge..I need ur help..lol

When your oil is changed, your technician or yourself can navigate to the oil life screen using the buttons on your steering wheel. From there, you can reset the oil life which will reset the oil change mileage in Fordpass as well. This step was probably skipped, so Fordpass is warning you too early. Frankly, these oil life warnings don't mean anything anyway. You should be changing your oil every 5k miles.

And again... while I am here why are my rear brakes still squealing like a bat out of hell when I back up even at 13000 miles after having them changed at the time of the recall...
There are many many threads on this topic. The widely accepted fix to correct the squeal is to replace Ford's semi metallic OEM pads with ceramic pads on your own dime. The pads are the source of the noise and Ford's suggested service bulletin will only correct the problem for a short period, then the squeal will return. Replace your brakes with ceramics.

My 2021 BS has needed an oil change since I took it off the lot brand new.
It's had 4 oil changes so far.

Your owner's manual has all the info you need on oil changes. Assuming it was properly reset following the last oil change, the intelligent oil-life monitor (IOLM) tracks your driving style and conditions and recommends an appropriate service interval based on data collected by Ford during literally millions of hours and miles of testing. Your manual states when you can expect a notification in the following table:

Ford Bronco Sport Fordpassoil change bull on 1.5 1704215436959

There are a lot of opinions on appropriate oil change intervals; most of them are based on the better-safe-than-sorry and/or "cheap insurance" principles rather than data. Ford's recommendations are based on data. I like data.

We've owned EcoBoost-equipped cars for coming up on a decade now. We traded our 2.0L 2014 Escape when it has something like 150K on the ODO. We changed the oil only when notified by the IOLM. It burned no oil and ran exactly as it did when we purchased it new. Someone here locally bought it from the dealer we traded it to; as far as I can tell it's still going strong.

Changing your oil more often than necessary is a waste of money and bad for the environment.

I would also note I've heard more than one report of FordPass in the messages section saying an oil change is urgently required, only for the oil life view in FordPass and the IOLM in the car gauge cluster itself to agree and not recommend an urgent oil change.

If the percentage in the car agrees with FordPass app and reflects 29%, most likely during your last oil change the oil life monitor in the gauge cluster was not reset per the manual, unless you have some extreme driving conditions like extended engine idling, etc. (as Mark posted from the. manual excerpt).

I am a believer in technology and I heeded the IOLM in my last car. Usually it tracked to 10k miles/1 year, but one time it dropped like a stone from 45% to 2% instantly at 5200 miles and I obeyed that and changed the oil. Never had a problem. I agree with Mark that I am inclined to trust the oil life monitor, and that changing oil excessively is wasteful with money and bad for the environment.

I am not inclined to believe that there is a conspiracy by Ford to either make it seem more convenient by extending oil change intervals or by making the engine last only long enough to get through warranty as some would state... and my personal experience shows that the IOLM is not just a tick of the odometer or a clock but actually takes real world factors into account on if the oil should be changed sooner.

I would say that Ford specs synthetic blend, I pay extra for full synthetic, and I pay more to not have to deal with the mess and hassle. In New York I get both very cold winters (sometimes below 0F) and summers that can reach 100F. Heat in particular is challenging on oil... cold or extended idling can be too (remote start makes longer idling easier). To me paying for a modern full synthetic blend is worth the extra cash. It's also pretty cheap if you get a high quality white label full synthetic (Kirkland Signature full synth at costco goes on sale for $32/10 quarts, which is effectively three oil changes for $64 + ~$21 for three oil filters = $85, divide by three oil changes from that and you're basically at a hair under $30 a change if you change your own oil.)

Thanks to yall for the info. The oil was reset at last oil change at ford dealer.it was changed at 9671 last march 2023. I go for the 5000 mile change . Around 13180 att. about 12900 approx 3000 miles later I start getting fordpass urgent warning that my oil is 0 % and need immediate service. But my engine not running hot my oil life monitor says I have 29 % and fits into my 5000 mile change plan which is also about a year later which is about what drive a year. I deleted the fordpass warning and yesterday as I am approaching 13230 around the 3000 mile mark the fordpass resents the urgent warning again. I find the timing of this warning oddly coincidental.

So I made the post..just curious if others getting a 3000 mile warning. Thanks again for replying I feel safer with the olim also.

Haven't experienced it yet (I changed the oil at 3200 miles which Valvoline told me was "unnecessary" and they recommended 7500 mile oil changes on full synth, also that they believed factory oil on the BS was full synth), one year mark will be early June. But I'm at 8200 miles now 9 months (so about 5000 miles in my oil) and my IOLM still reads above 40% oil life remaining with no warning messages in the inbox of FordPass.

I have to get the car inspected in March anyways, at which time I expect I'll have approximately 6000 miles on the oil... normally I would just wait for the IOLM to tell me, but Valvoline is so afraid of cracking the oil pan they eVac the oil from the top. Some have concerns that this allows sediment to sit that isn't extracted unlike it pouring out with the plug removed. So I'll do the oil a little bit early and align my oil changes with my state safety and emissions inspections each year (unless I get to a point where the IOLM recommends changing the oil earlier than that).

Update for you responders...I called ford pass....asked why I'm getting this message of 0% oil Urgent message. You will not believe the rest of the story.
So they verify me and say you have 22 % oil life and when life goes under 50% you will start rec msgs to remind you to get an oil change.
I said i certainly appreciate a reminder for us old farts...l am 75...haha... BUT a reminder that reads.... URGENT !!! 0% oil life and NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION !!! DO YOU WANT TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT WITH A FORD DEALER NOW!!! Is not a reminder it is a panic attack!!!. To us older or the inexperienced younger 1st time drivers.
Ie: daughter off at college...
So the alerts i got "twice" at around 3000 miles after my last oil change was never explained to me...bc she told me herself that 0% was not the "reading" in the fordpass app and the message was suppose to be a friendly reminder once ot read under 50% to get an oil change....and could not explain the msg I received.

I think it's bull@$#&......I think it's a ploy by some degenerate greedy people to get innocent/naive people to spend much needed grocery money to benefit ford and the dealers at the customers expense.....and thats the rest of the story..as said by my ole friend Paul Harvey..I'm giving credit to the author..I do not believe in pledgerism as Harvard does today.

It's best to go by the IOLM. If it was telling everyone to get their oil changed every 2,000 miles (say) then I'd question it.

For those that want to confirm the IOLM recommendation ("trust but verify") you can send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs, etc., and get their opinion.

One thing is for sure -- there is no fixed number of miles that is appropriate for all Bronco Sports, or even one individual vehicle -- because conditions change.

Seems odd, Ford Pass if synced reads the vehicles information, the data should corallate.
Something else is going on.

THIS^^^

A blanket statement of changing your oil every 5K or whatever is not the procedure for everyone, as it depends on how the vehicle is driven or used. Which is why Marks reply using Ford's data is correct and should be followed.
