Kinda strange the guy that made the Skid plate didn't film its application & wasn't that front skid plate an after market one ?

Now , off roading is fun , but if you off road & I don't care what vehicle you use , you run the chance of breaking something every time you do so . BS BL model is the only BS that ford set up to rock crawl , well sort of , so why would you blame Ford for what you took your non BL BS into , it wasn't designed for it , it's all on the driver . You will pay to play , just the facts .

Me, too.
$1,046 !
This thing is in a stupid vulnerable place, 'protected' by a piece of felt.
BS isn't the rugged off-roader it's cracked up to be.

JCR Offroad is coming out with a steel bash plate that replaces that black card board felt thing. Also Badlands has a steel plate to protect that canister.

Yes I had the exact same thing happen except I never ran over anything and the dealership tried to claim I must've tried jacking my car up in the wrong place lol, I've been a race car fabricator for 40 plus years so the jacking bs is just that bs, they wanted 600 plus dollars to repair the issue and I told them to pound sand, $360.00 labor, $340.00 for the new canister, I bought a new canister online from parts geek for $180.00 and changed the canister in my driveway in 1/2 hour, the part I got from parts geek is a Motorcraft unit just like the dealer sells and in fact when I contacted Ford about the issue they didn't have anything to say even though I mentioned to them that putting the canister under the truck is stupid and it's vulnerable where it's at with no skid plate to protect it only a piece of cardboard with carpet on it and contrary to belief there are quite a few comments here on the forum by hundreds of owners who've had the same issue.
Hi! New to the forum, and resurrecting an old thread. Installed a new one a couple of days ago, however I'm still getting codes every time I start the car. Did your system eventually catch up? Or is there something in the computer that needs to be reset?

Did you erase the trouble code with a scanner? If not just disconnecting the battery cables will not delete the code. On the other hand you may have other defective parts from replacing the cannister i.e. o-rings, clips or possibly cracked one of the lines during the install. If I were you I'd take it to a dealership and have them diagnose it under warranty. It is a stupid place to mount the canister and the associated lines, very vulnerable where it's at, I took mine to the dealership and claimed it under warranty and they charged me nothing to diagnose it but wanted $1,000.00 to fix it and I told them to pound sand and did it in my driveway for under $ 400.00.

Maybe stop going over that rock? I kid, I kid. Never heard of this happening to anyone else.
Happened to me and I never ran over anything and the proof of that was when I took it to the dealership and told them I had never had it off road yet they said and I quote" we could tell as it's still extremely clean underneath" then they proceeded to tell me that well maybe you jacked it up in the wrong place when you put the tow bar in and I said well that only involved jacking up the rear of the car! Regardless they wanted a 1000 to fix it and I did it for less than 400 dollars in my driveway.

I attempted to clear the codes, got an error and then no codes. Sounds like I need a new scanner ;) Regardless, I appreciate the advice! I swapped out the unit successfully, but I'll take it for a diagnosis. Like you say, the rock I found may have damaged more than I realized. Doesn't hurt to get their opinion if it's covered.

Anyone else have this happen? Pretty light off-roading and hit rocks apparently. Either two unlucky strikes or the canister is placed in a vulnerable position. About $1k all in to fix each time. ?

I was on my gravel driveway and had a rock put a hole through the felt cover and then put a hole in the canister. I have a little over 13,000. miles on it and they refuse to fix it. Saying it was a natural cause and not their problem. Told me to turn it into my car insurance company!! Bumper to Bumper warranty my BuTT!! oh and $800!!

If it leaked due to a manufacturing defect, it would be covered by warranty. A puncture from an object will not be. If I did a bunch of off-roading, I think I would install some of the available skid plates as it seems to be in a bad spot. Cheers!

No off roading, I think it happened on my steep gravel driveway! Just sucks that I bought it because it was 4-wheel drive and thought I wouldn't have a problem. A vehicle sold for off roading should have a metal plate on it already!

This just happened to my 2023 Bronco Sport Outer Banks. Dealer said the evap canister was broken by coming down on a rock, and the repair was not covered under warranty, so I ended up paying just under $1000 to replace it. I'd like to avoid this happening again. Does anyone have recommendations on what skid plate I should buy? I'm definitely no a mechanic, so I'd need to pay someone else to install it.
