Hello, I am curious to see if anyone else is having the same issue I am. I have a 2021 Bronco Sport Big Bend. In December of 2022 my engine light came on 3 times, detecting "Evap Emissions Fault", I brought it to the local dealership and it was "misfiring". They kept the car, and called me January 3rd and told me the car was ready to be picked up. I arrived at the dealership to pick up my Bronco, and it would not start. They told me it must be the battery and tried to jump it. Nope, wouldn't start. They had to "fix" it again and told me it was an "Evap emissions issue" again. I picked it up about a week later after they called again and said it was fixed, 2 days later, I get to my car after leaving work and it wont start. I had to have it towed back to the dealership. So this is the 3rd time again and it was another "Evap emissions issue" They "fix" my Bronco again, and boom about 2 weeks later, engine light comes on again... we repeat and it goes back to the dealership they "fix it again" for the 4th time.... well here we are to current...Monday, March 6th, I bring my car back to the dealership for the FIFTH time because the engine light is on detecing a "Evap emissions Fault" yet again..... I received a call from the dealership on Friday, March 10th, telling me that I must have ran my car off the road and I caused this to happen, I have "holes" under my car and a "baseball size hole" in my Evap emissions canister.... UM EXCUSE ME? ... NO I HAVE NOT HIT ANYTHING OR GONE OFF THE ROAD. So $1092.06 later I will have my car back tomorrow as this is not covered under warranty.. what a perfect way for them to not have to pay and make money back from the 4 previous times. Also, I have filed a complaint with BBB and my states Attorney Generals office. This is the craziest thing ever. I have attached pictures to this post that the dealership sent me.

Anyone else having this issue?

What was the fix all the other times you brought it in? What exactly did they fix on those visits? Or did they not find the broken canister on the first visit? Could have hit road debris for that damage to happen. It's more common then you think weather you knew it happened or not. I know others have also cracked that canister, granted they where going off-road. It's in a vulnerable area unfortunately.

We are in the winter season. Any chance that you ran over a chunk of ice on the road? The damage that you show in the pictures is to the underbody panels but doesn't actually show the evap canister. I'm sure these are pictures from the dealer's service department. They aren't really showing the damage to the $1100 part.

Every time I brought it into the dealership previously it all involved the "Evap Emissions System" and no, they did not find this before, they stated it happened between the 4th and 5th time that it was at the dealership.

The evap emission canister plus labor and parts is what is the cost. I am picking my car up tomorrow, I have asked for them to save me the parts that they replace.

Smart!

It's possible that the canister has been damaged the entire time and they just never noticed it. If that's the case then shame on them. The pics you included do indeed show something struck the underside of your vehicle. Whether or not it was road debris is nigh impossible to prove one way or the other. Hopefully an examination of the damaged parts will yield more clues. Post pics if you want opinions on that.

BTW, have you considered making an insurance claim? I believe road damage is covered under most policies.

At this point, I am going to just pay for it out of pocket and hope the AG office or BBB can help me. I just wanted you to know that you were not alone in this situation. Did you have anymore problems since they have fixed your canister?

I have not had any issues with my canister; you may be mistaking me for another poster.

What is the AG going to do? Whether you knew if you hit something or not, that's clearly damage from an object strike. Something physically hit it and broke it. Stuff happens. It's just unfortunate they didn't properly diagnose it the first time.

Going to be ordering these ones of these days. Cheaper than a replacement canister.

Something hit the bottom of the BS or maybe someone tried to jack it up or lift it at the wrong location. Wouldn't be the first time.

Well after being treated the way I have, and accused of "going off the road" and being put the the ringer 4 times and then being told I have to pay $1092 and it just happened with in the week I had it back... and my car is not the only one that has had this issue, Ford needs to be addressing this issue. AG may help and may not. But we shall see.

It looks like damage from hitting something. The liners are torn and the metal shield got whanged pretty good. Maybe it wasn't "offroad". but it certainly struck something that the driver would have heard/felt a big thump from. Someone has been mucking around down there previously, as evidenced by the zip-tie fix to the felt shield. I guess they could be the zip-tier but that seems odd for a dealer shop. They'd rather drop in a new part. If you brought it in for an EVAP code and it took them 5 times to even look at the EVAP components, that's a pretty egregious error on their part. Should have been found in less than an hour.

Typically an EVAP issue will not completely prevent a car from starting. So that piece is a bit weird and so it seems like the vehicle had more than one issue. Perhaps they did something else and you haven't been told what that is.

If you look around the forum enough, you will find a few people that had the same work done. The canister isn't the cheapest part (nor the most expensive). $1,100 sound a bit high in that they needed five times to diagnose the problem and that right there is probably $500 of their billing for at least 1hr/visit of tech time. A total of $500 to actually diagnose, replace and repair an EVAP canister sounds like about what that service would cost at a dealer. I would have tried to negotiate a bill split. But since you already cut a check and lawyered up I don't know if the dealership would want to settle now.

Hi Jasmine! I can look into your Bronco's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Bronco's VIN?

Hi,
Thank you for your response, I have not hit anything, I made them very aware I agree I would have noticed. Also, the 4 other times, was under warranty and they put new parts in for the Evap Emissions System. I was told again this morning when I dropped the check off and picked up my car, they did not miss this, it happened within the last week I had my car. So before Monday the 6th of March, I had it for a week.
After dropping my check off, and switching things out of the loaner car to my Bronco, I was approached by an employee and told "I was not allowed to have business done there anymore".
Unreal how this whole situation was handled. Hoping to hear back from BBB or AG Office.
