I haven’t seen this posted, and I’m hoping I’m posting this in the right spot. I’m pretty sure I am since this involves a current recall, but there is a lawsuit filed for the 1.5 engine fire recall. I signed up for it.

Here’s the article talking about the lawsuit:

https://fordauthority.com/2023/02/ford-escape-bronco-sport-owners-sue-over-alleged-defect/

And here’s where I signed up for the lawsuit:

https://www.hbsslaw.com/press/ford-escape-and-bronco-sport-fuel-injector-fire-hazard-defect/owners-of-ford-escapes-and-broncos-sue-over-dangerous-defect-that-sparks-spontaneous-fires

I wonder if Ford did know about this because I had my Bronco Sport built and shipped with a few others on here and somehow I got mine and others that were with mine got held up at a rail yard.

I noticed my fuel injectors leaking recently because of a strong gas smell when parking after a long drive. I notified my dealer and was told to wait "a couple weeks" for parts to arrive before anything could be done, meanwhile I'm driving around in a bronco that could catch fire while driving.

Depending on the severity of the crack, there are other symptoms besides the smell. It may not be a cracked injector at all. If I were you I would INSIST on an in-person inspection by a qualified technician rather than a phone consult. If you decide to keep driving it without knowing for sure the source of the gas smell you might consider investing in a fire extinguisher.

I had recently received the recall notice and had called the dealer to inquire about the recall. It seems like shortly after that I noticed the gas smell. The vehicle is well out of warranty (58,000 miles), I don't know what else would be covered besides the recall work.

And maybe an ejection seat.

It’s funny, just the other day I thought since Ford has the Mustang and the big Bronco, that the Bronco Sport should’ve been called the Pinto since it’s also deals with horses ?. Of course I know that name is forever tarnished, but just a thought I had to fit with their theme of classic nameplates that could fit with their passion brands.

Did owners start this class action or did the law firm $?$?

I said it before in another thread, the fix with the drain tube is an absolute joke. That's a duct tape repair Ford needs to fix the actual problem, the injectors themselves. Maybe this lawsuit will force Ford to actually come to with a real solution to this problem.

I wouldn't count on it. If they do replace injectors under pressure from this lawsuit the recall work to install a drain tube will still be required, because there should not be any place under the hood where flammable liquids can collect.

Don't forget that manufacturers do not develop recall "fixes" in a vacuum. The NHTSA reviews and approves all manufacturer-developed recall procedures for safety recalls. It seems to me if the NHTSA believed these injectors to be sub-par it would require Ford to replace them.

safety recalls are not warrenty work. they are the company being ordered by DOT to fix or else. charging consumers for that fix would reduce number of fixes and thus less overall safety. They usually trty and bribe you to come in for a recall. My accord airbag fix got me a free 2nd key, wash and oil change ,on a 10 year old accord.

airbags weny back 15 years too i belive.

I just read where there are still 8000 registered vehicles that have not had their airbags replaced. Due to age they are reportedly expected to have a 50% chance of accidentally going off rather than the 0.6% chance 15 years ago.

I brought my car into the dealership this morning for the required recall repair. I had made the appointment two weeks ago. The service advisor said that I was the first person to bring their car in for that repair. He went to check and then apologized profusely because they had not yet received the necessary part. I reschedule for 3 weeks from today but next time will call to verify the parts are in. In a way, I was relieved since I didn't want to be the very first to have that repair done by their mechanics.

Did you get a letter from Ford to make an appointment with your dealership that parts are in? They said in the first letter to wait till they send out a second letter that will tell you that parts are available and to schedule an appointment to fix the recall. The first letter was just to notify you that your car is being recalled. According from what I’ve heard, they won’t have parts till the end of Q1 of this year. We’re just sitting ducks waiting for these parts to come in.

According to the article, it was owners. I don’t know how many filed since they don’t tell you that, at least I don’t think they do, but it was owners that filed.

I called my service advisor when I received the letter from Ford. He said the parts were coming and scheduled the appointment for today. Obviously something changed. For the most part, I have been very pleased with dealership sales and service. Stuff happens.
