A number of the control points In Arizona and New Mexico have a local meaning and not necessarily the same name as the town your rail car is going past. If you are on UP, it will make more sense after El Paso.

I know at one point I had a message that said something about a “waybill” shortly before coming back (again) to finally be dropped off at the rail yard it had passed twice. After research, I remember thinking that they had to change the “waybill” for some reason. In hindsight I think the rail yard was full of outgoing vehicles on the first two passes and the waybill had to be changed because it wasn’t supposed to be waiting at a junction for so long.
Mine has been bouncing around IL since 09/13.. driving me crazy. Started at the gateway yard,Went south ,then back north and now south again to Galesburg, IL but stopped for a few days here and there. So two weeks so far in Illinois. Starting to not like that state…?? my ETA is 9/28-10-04. ???
Mine is at “A&S connections IL” which is close to that gateway yard. And yeah, hasn’t moved since 9/24.
I could be talking absolute nonsense here as I don’t know much about freight trains, but could the reason they appear to move from location to location have something to do with the length of the train? Some freight trains are extremely long with numerous rail cars. Maybe it’s something to do with offloading rail cars in in a specific order.
It’s very possible! When I did a google maps of the area, it seems like a big rail interchange area. My ETA window starts today so, curious to see once there is movement.
