So @Discount Tire was kind enough to damage my wheel when they replaced my tires (didn’t notice initially as, a)the wheels had that lubricant/grease they use to slip tire on, and b) because I had my front bumper replaced and the trim painted I was told not to wash my car for a few weeks.

They admitted fault and said they would take care of it. They had a local wheel repair company attempt to fix but the paint color is a tad off (darker) and they left a slight dip where he used his special ‘sander.’ Plus, the surface is rough and not smooth like the factory finish. Needless to say, maybe I’m being overly anal, but I am not pleased. More so as the car only has 2k miles.

So, long story short: will DT pay for a wheel (either used/eBay or new) considering they’ve already paid for/attempted a fix?

Thanks

I’ve seen one or two videos of Discount Tire employees mounting tires.

Would not trust them. Damage is guaranteed if the videos are anything to go by.

It was just one wheel and it was obviously something they did. Looked like a pry bar might have been used.

What is alarming, or maybe not, is that the wheel repair company has a contract with DT to repair their damaged wheels.

Tough luck just keep pressing for a replacement... They have takeoffs they resell

The problem is that the person doing the job probably doesn’t care about your vehicle. To them it’s just another job to get done as fast as possible.

It’s unfortunate. I’m not saying all Discount Tire employees don’t care, but it’s guaranteed many don’t.

I’ve had tires mounted on my Escape’s 19” rims five times in 3 years (winter, etc) and no damage was done by my Ford dealership. They specifically told me they have equipment that does not damage rims, unlike older equipment used by some other places.

That's exactly what Discount Tire told me ...go figure.

Honestly, the manager's been cool about it and offered to fix so I respect him for admitting it was them and offering to fix. My concern was the company that tried to fix it. For most people, maybe with a car that's a few years old, or ready to trade in, etc ...I'm sure that repair would have been more than adequate.

Bummer man. I specifically told em when mounting the big tires to not let a newb do the job. They still managed to mangle a tire with less than 500 miles on it. So now my for sale set has a brand new pirelli included with the barely used Originals. SMH. I should have had them give me 4 certs instead. Lol

Most of us here are pretty OCD when it comes to our BS so I'm sure most will see it.

So my DT called and said they are submitting the info to their claims dept.

Said I should be hearing back by Tuesday.

This should not be taken as a strike against Discount Tire. If you have enough miles under your belt, chances are you’ll get a newbie that messes up your wheel. I’d say that chances are pretty good your local Discount Tire mounts more tires than your local dealer in a given day.

I had them mount a Falken Wildpeak on a Badlands wheel without any issue.
