My car automatically goes into park!

You can always roll the window down and look behind you without opening the door. I do the same thing with very tight parking spaces. Although we have backup cameras with guide lines nothing beats actually looking behind at it and better perception.

Slammed into park, :’) It does not slam.
Next time when you are backing like that be looking at your gearshift button.
You will see it calmly rotate to park.
Just turn it back to reverse with the door open.
I used to back like that all the time. But I made myself use the rear camera exclusively until I mastered the thing.
I don’t like doing things that activate safety features.

Another feature you may not know about is that when you park you can just push the engine on/off button and the BS will automatically go into park same time as the engine stops. My 2020 Edge had this feature as well, probably all the Ford models with a rotary gear selector do. Nice feature, saves a second or two.

And on a certain grade the E brake will automatically come on if you turn the engine off in drive when you park

Read your manual. If you have door open and seat belt off the BS goes into park. To override keep seat belt buckled. This is to prevent vehicle from running over you if you were to get out. Keeps transmission from slipping out of park. This is for those that can not pour water out of a bucket with instructions written on bottom.

My Badlands does not do this.
I tried going into both Drive end Reverse with the driver's side door open.
A warning flashed on the dash that I was not in Park, but the car continued to stay in Drive/Reverse as I had chosen.

Had a coworker get out of a vehicle (he was the driver) to open a gate without putting it in park. I threw it in park right away before I became the passenger in an accident with no driver.

I'm constantly impressed by the safety features my Sport has over my 2013 Hyundai Accent. The first time we tried to see what would happen if we turned the car off without being in park and it put itself there, I was astounded.
The lane keeping, automatic headlights and high beams, automatic park, plus the perfect safety rating - I have never felt so comfortable in a vehicle before. Very happy with my Big Bend already and I just can't wait for my Badlands. Ford hit a home run with this model.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study published in August, 360 people were killed in accidents involving unattended vehicles with no driver control between 2012 and 2014 – which is 19 percent of all non-occupants killed in non-traffic crashes a year. In an average year, about 2,000 people are injured in similar incidents.

Return to Park technology is designed to automatically shift the car into park when any of the following conditions* occur:

• You turn the vehicle off
• You open the driver’s door with your safety belt unlatched and the vehicle stationary
• Your safety belt is unlatched with the driver’s door open and the vehicle stationary

Return to Park will not engage in these cases:

• .. detects a belted driver opens the door with the car moving to free a stuck coattail
• If a driver happens to be inching into a parking space and wishes to see the lane markers
• When the car is in Stay in Neutral or Neutral Tow mode.

Ouch. That press kit is for a Ford Fusion. There are some differences then..
