Yeah, with eco and careful driving habits those numbers are definitely possible. I'm more concerned with MPG over the lifetime of the vehicle rather than just one trip, though. What I spend in gas over the long term means a lot more to me than going 55 mph and significantly reducing my smiles per gallon to save on a single trip.
That being said, I've been very impressed with the MPG on the 1.5L so far. I've gone across the country twice and it's been a great little daily driver for my trek between work and home. About to lose a few MPG when my Badlands order comes in, but again, it's personally all about how much I enjoy the vehicle. So long as I'm not getting truck fuel economy, my wallet is happy.

I just did a 2200 mile round trip in my OB. I was usually 5-9 mph above the posted speed. I noticed a drop off in mileage above 60 mph. My average for the trip was about 32.8 mph per the car’s reckoning.

I'm staying at 54-56 mph hitting 40 mpg consistently.

I tested the 55 theory years ago in a Ford Windstar and save hundreds on gas driving across country from Ohio to California.

Anybody coming close to these #'s?

Nope and I’m ok with the MPG's I get with my BS in the city and on the highway. When I am looking for better MPG's on a long trip I use my Rav4 Hybrid

My hand-calculated MPG for my Big Bend was 29.7 combined when I sold it for a Badlands. Fortunately I don't have a long commute but I will miss the BB's respectable fuel economy, considering this thing's a brick on wheels.

Very cool experiment, but 55 is not practical driving...heck 18 wheelers will blow you off the road at that speed. Driving through Chicagoland IN CONSTRUCTION...I held 55 until delivery vans pushing 90 as they flew by...then a cop...did the same, no lights no sirens, just driving.

My thoughts exactly. It's a rolling box and I'm constantly amazed by just how aerodynamic they managed to make the thing. But the BL just suits my needs better. It's worth the small MPG decrease.

54mph is a neat experiment. 40 mpg is remarkable

But it’s just not practical for most freeway, interstate driving. You try that in any metro area, you are putting yourself and others in danger. Most of us don’t leave 10-20 minutes early so that we can play with our experiment. Drivers need to go with the flow. Hell, that’s why minimum speeds are posted. You wanna try that out in the farmlands of OH or driving thru the sticks in WV… knock yourself out. One might Become a victim of road rage or worse, cause an accident. I hope you are in the slow lane! Maybe get some shoe polish and jot out “experimental“ on your back window.

Not even close. I’m only at 54-56 for a few seconds on my way to 70-75.

Really! The Dan Ryan is 45mph and at 5:00 in the morning, no one is going less than 80. Now, two hours later, 45 would be nice!

I’m getting an easy 26-28mpg combined driving in Los Angles on shorter trips in my Badlands. City driving I’m getting around 21mpg. My F150 would get around 9mpg, so it’s a big improvement. My Prius got approximately 42mpg, but the distances are short, so I prefer the safety and feel of the BS. On longer trips with the cruise control set at 58-62 mph I’m seeing 32-35mpg Highway in eco. I have seen 40mpg, but that really takes nursing the gas pedal and ideal driving condition. i don’t mind driving slower but even at 70mph the mpg is good. At 70mph posted speed cars are going 80+mph, so I like to pretend to keep up with traffic

My wife’s mother went through a phase of going 55 on the highway and interstate to save money. She would slowly build up speed on the ramp.

Everyone else was doing 70-90 and getting seriously angry in some cases.

I was in the backseat one time. It was dangerous and quite scary.
