The Curt hitch looks nice. Good option for those who need to add one aftermarket. I've seen some people comment that it's easier to install than the factory hitch and that's not so. Install is the same, even uses the same bolt holes. What differs is if you get the wiring kit or not. Having your dealer install the factory hitch will run you quite a bit more, but requires running the long wire bundle all the way up front to the terminal block near the battery. The Curt hitch is a great option, especially if you don't need trailer wiring. It's possible to wire in a trailer plug by splicing into other wiring, but I don't know if that would save any time or money, probably not.

Should only be one wire to run to the front. The fused hot wire to run the conversion box needs 12 volts from a constant source. The rest are plug and play from the rear lights. I’ve done this many times. Only issue is make sure you have a good ground and expect to replace the box every 10 years or so.

Just a couple of pics of my aftermarket hitch. It's from Curt. Found it online for $181. You can see the place did a great job of cutting the bumper!

That looks great. Much better than other bulky options. I will be looking to do this to ours and tracking down the wiring.

I've got an open box Ford OEM trailer wiring available. It's complete and unused minus the missing box. Will even send you a high-quality installation guide.

Sells for $95, but I'll do $75 shipped.

The Ford hitch mounts different than the curt/uhaul etc setups. The Ford hitch mounts into the frame rails and under it. That’s why the rear bumper plate gets removed.
The others just bolt into the bottom of the rails, hence why is easier. I got the Ford hitch and install for same price as just the curt hitch costs using my Ford points. 192$ installed and is more secure. Especially as a recovery point.

Is it a necessity to install a protection circuit on trailer wiring? I have installed trailer wiring in the past and always used the vehicle taillights for connection points without any short protection at all.. If protecting the vehicle electrical system is the purpose of the protection circuit why not put a 10 amp fuse on each circuit. Don't need any bashing, just asking a question . Thanks for answers.

Well, my original BL I ordered is getting built this week with the hitch so I might have just solved one of my problems…

Here's the quality of the job a local Ford Dealership did on my new BS. And as a bonus, it looks like the mechanic staged the hitch on the new cargo mat which left multiple small slices in it.

Unfortunately another Dealer hack job…. More reasons I decided against it.
