Negotiate with a Ford dealer on an Ford ESP plan price, no 3rd party.

Extended warranties are a crap shoot but I have one I bought from Granger before the CA. bu!!shit started. Paid $1605 with added options, 7 year 75K miles, $50 ded. If you have issues other than powertrain after the 3 year 36K mile warranty, it doesn't take long to eat up that cost.

Up to you whether it's worth it. If you decide to sell the vehicle before the ESP expires, it's prorated for a refund depending on whether you tapped into it and what was paid out.
My dealer said they could not touch the online dealer price so I bought mine online.

Drivetrain warranty that comes with the vehicle is 5 years or 60,000 miles. I could have extended it for 3 more years for about $3,000. No thanks. I’d rather save the $3,000 and pay for repairs after 60,000 miles IF they happen. Warranties are a profit item for a reason. Just my humble take on it. Nothing against those that prefer to buy extended warranties.
Exactly, well said! To add to that:

Financially, any extended warranty -- regardless of any discount -- is, on average, a bad deal. It is gambling, and the 'house' always wins. There are a tiny percentage of 'winners' who will crow far and wide about what a great deal the warranty is (and it was, for them). Unfortunately, there are many, many more 'losers.' Of course, they typically remain silent (few people brag about losing a bet).

One potential exception would be if the owner knows that their use is much harder on their vehicle (without being considered abuse) than the underwriter is counting on. For example: towing at the maximum GCWR, with a trailer that has close to the allowed frontal area; on washboard roads; with very steep hills; in the Southwest or CA desert.

In addition, buying an extended warranty may be worthwhile for someone who would have a hard time paying for a major repair, and/or will literally lose sleep over the possibility (even if they can cover any repair).
