I recently had the turbo replaced on my 2022 Ford Bronco. After replacement, I began to experience a heavy drag from the rear and while the gears changed (associated with a thud between gear shifts). I returned the vehicle to Bayou Ford and I was informed about a bulletin that was released stating a change of fluids (rear axle oil, perhaps). The fluids were changed and the issue seemed to have been resolved. However, the bandaid fell off and the problem returned and is worst than before. The operating of the vehicle is unpleasant and extremely rough. I was told that I would not be able to have the vehicle looked at for 6 weeks. I have been dealing with this dragging issue since I purchased the car 02/2023. I reported the issue shortly after the purchase and was told that nothing was wrong. The vehicle is under warranty but after bringing this vehicle in numerous times for this issue, plus the turbo, the dealership does not seem to want to further assist. Is changing the rear axle oil something that can be accomplished without having to deal with the dealership?

I just changed my rear axle (RDU) oil today. It takes about .8 of a quart of oil (Ford recommends to use Motorcraft XY75WQL SAE75W Disconnect Rear Drive unit Fluid - which is 45 bucks a quart from Amazon!). It was easy to do - you just need a 3/8 inch socket wrench (the drain and fill holes are 3/8 inch square holes). You also need a long rubber tube to fill the RDU - from the middle of the car (RDU) to outside the wheel well so that you can get the oil container higher than the RDU. Or get a pump of some sort to pump the new oil into the RDU. Probably took about 20 minutes. Oil is filled to the level of the fill hole. The drain plug is a magnet - make sure to clean it off before putting it back. My car had about 35000 miles - the old oil was a lot darker than the new oil. I am not a professional mechanic - so this is just my experience.

Stories like yours are too common! Dealer can't look at this unit for six weeks! And it's been in and out of his shop. I've said it here before and I'll say it again. This type dealer service will continue as long as Ford allows it. They say they value their customers, but this type service says otherwise.

If I didn't have an in with my Ford dealer, I'd be afraid to buy a Ford.

I'd contact a Ford service rep and ask for assistance. This type dealer service is just unacceptable. And it should be to FMC as well.

If they already changed the RDU fluids and the problem returned then changing it again will not likely fix your problem. Some here have reported their problem was resolved only after replacing the RDU. It's possible the contamination that caused the initial roughness damaged the RDU enough to require replacement. This is a warranty issue for sure, and if your car goes into the shop enough for the same issue it can become a Lemon Law candidate. I recommend checking the laws in your State.

Sad as people’s experience with Ford seems to be highly variable depending on their dealer. McDonald’s doesn’t allow this level of variability in their operations. & yet a good dealer working with you to fix a poor vehicle can go a long ways. My dealer is great or I’d be afraid too. Yet I agree, OP’s story seems to be closer to the norm.

One person on this forum used Motorcraft product "Additive Friction Modifier" when he changed the oil, and said it stopped the chatter. Might be worth a try.

Good morning, Emanon. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this turbo concern?

Thank you, I wish they would cover, but I am out of warranty by 6k miles. It is just disappointing that the buyer has to pay for this.

If you took it in for service the first time before warranty expiry then you have a good argument that they never fixed it in the first place.
