Waze for longer road trips and Google Maps for city driving. Google Maps search function is much better as it gives you a map to look at with location pins of what you are searching for along with a list. Waze just gives you a text list and how many miles away each result is, sometimes sending you backwards on your route.Sounds like he likes Tom Tom. An option for him regardless of the cost.
On a couple of long trips this summer I just used the Sync 3 Nav.
I don't use CarPlay or the nav apps very often. Just being an old curmudgeon I guess. I'm sure it works fine, and maybe someday I'll venture into that abyss.
Android Auto and Google Maps/ Waze has saved me so much time avoiding slowdowns.
On one trip specifically a few years back, I was running Google Maps on my phone while my dad was driving. I saw an alert for a showdown ahead, a faster route is available. I told him to exit now, he didn't want to because he hates getting off the highway........ He took the exit, and onto an empty access road that ran parallel to the highway, traffic on the highway was at a dead stop with people out of their cars looking at the accident half a mile up the road. We sailed on by.
Even if I know where I am going I let Google Maps sort out the route.
