Tire Questions

We went with 235/65R17 Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires on our Badlands, which is mostly a commuter as well. They are quiet on the highway and have been great in the ice and snow up here in Saskatchewan. They are not as aggressive as KO2s, but I think they are great all around AT tires if you're a commuter.

AT’s what I did, also in 235’s for the same reasons. I couldn’t be happier.
FWIW no changes in Mpg’s and that tells me these AT’s roll as well as the stock Conti’s.
I don’t like noisy tires, More noise also means more heat.
As for looks, what did the Allied tire guy used to say ?
“Tires ain’t pretty”

What do you think about Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 in 245's vs the 235's?

I want something good in snow and ice, and rain, and you guys seam to like the Geolandar. But I was leaning towards the 245's.

I don't really off-road, but the streets on my short daily commute are totally fucked-up. Potholes, half exposed old train tracks, screws everywhere.

The 245's are substantially heavier than the 235's 42.7lbs vs 32.1lbs
Also a much deeper tread 17/32" vs 12/32"

I figure that extra rubber would help with the screw resistance and general toughness. On a different thread I started about screw resistance, people were suggested a high weight rated tire. The Geolandar 245 has a E rating.

The overall weight and dimensions aren't any larger than the BFG KO2 245's that lot of people have put on without trouble, so I'm confident they'll fit. As far fuel economy, my commute is short and low speeds through the city, so I'm not too worried it too much. I'll drive 3 or 4 hours on the highway to going skiing in the winter, but it's not everyday.

Was gonna buy a set during the Direct Tire sale, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Doesn't seam like anyone else has bought the Geolandars in the 245's, or hasn't posted about it anyways.

You may want to consider this, the 235's are an XL load rated tire, which is stronger than SL rated tires and you will be saving $ on gas and have faster acceleration, when you think you need it. If you're worried about flats you can get a matching spare and buy tire replacement certificates. Just a thought, I know I wouldn't want to be carrying around that extra weight all the time with the 1.5L.

Yeah, the 245's are really heavy, right? (42.7 lbs) I was a little worried about how it would affect the performance. But I figure they're roughly the same weight as the BFG 245/65R17 (45.15 lbs) or the Fallken AT3 245/65R17 (39 lbs) and seams like lots of people on here about with putting those on their 1.5L Big Bends and Bases and not having any issues ?‍.

The Yokohama AT's are a solid product and tend to work well for many people. Based on your usage there would certainly be benefits to the heavier tire construction of the LT tire, where as by running the Standard load would offer some additional fuel efficiency, acceleration and braking benefits.

Finally put on my new tires. Yokohama Geolandars 245/65R17's
Love 'em.
Was a little worried about the potential loss of peppyness, because of the weight (and the 1.5 liter)
but really haven't noticed much difference. I ran through some deep puddles yesterday at about 20mph and it definitely feels a lot better than the stock Conti's did.

I have the 235 and they are a great tire next to no road noise, 245 are a 1/2 inch taller and a 1/4 wider. I have had my for over a year now and they will be replaced by 245 for looks only .

I have been checking a lot of tires, and I am thinking on the 245 on Wildpeak AT trails, some compromise toward highway, but fair response off road, I drive 80-90 percent on paved roads. Just my opinion and choice, but check it out...
