This is absolutely true.
Discovered some time ago in modern-day Iraq was a Sumerian cuneiform tablet dating to ~1900 BC, over 4,000 years ago.
The tablet, along with the others found, were painstakingly translated to the best of linguist's and historian's abilities, adjusted as little as possible to make it comprehensible to modern tongues.
What was found was maybe not the actual oldest joke, but certainly the oldest one in written form. It goes,
