Interesting. I probably tried out your procedure 30 times and was ready to throw in the towel and carefully drive to my local shop to have them disable maintenance mode. Then in a last minute google search I found the alternate procedure (with brake) and it worked the first time with no change to anything else I was doing but that. (I'll edit my post above to mention 360+)
Ok, I went in and out of maintenance mode three times on my car using the procedure I posted. I did not need the additional step you posted to exit maintenance mode, but there were a couple of differences from the last time I tried the procedure:
  • When the system enters parking brake maintenance mode in addition to the notification I now see an amber colored brake symbol in the upper right-hand corner (see below).
  • I no longer see a notification the brake mode is "Normal" when exiting maintenance mode, but the brake symbol in the upper right-hand corner goes out.

Interesting- I'll have to go see what mine does. There are so many notifications that flash by that it's hard to keep track. FYI here's the web site where I happened across the modification to the instructions:

Hey all, the procedures above are missing a step to get OUT of maintenance mode. You need to press the brake pedal for >1 second in the middle of the process. (Edit: Note that it sounds like the above procedure works for many models. I have a Badlands with Copilot 360+. The 360+ option may be the reason for this difference- if anyone can confirm on their BS with 360+ let us know)

Here's the updated procedure:

To exit maintenance mode:
Turn on accessory power without starting. The system will display a notification that it is set to parking brake maintenance mode.
Depress and hold the accelerator pedal and pull (not press) the parking brake switch simultaneously. The system will chime and display a warning that you are in parking brake maintenance mode.
Firmly press the brake pedal for at least 1 second.
Release the brake pedal while continuing to hold the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch.
While still holding both, turn accessory power off, then back on.
After a few seconds the system will display a notification that brake mode is normal.
Release the accelerator pedal and parking brake switch.
Turn off accessory power. You should NOT see a parking brake maintenance mode notification.
Quick question - is there also an updated procedure to ENTER maintenance mode?
Or let me ask it another way, will this updated procedure to EXIT maintenance mode still work no matter how you enter maintenance mode?

I know it is a detailed question. But I'm going to try this procedure (again) later this weekend.
For those that didn't see my thread from last Fall, I successfully entered maintenance mode but could not exit. Had to pay a dealer to get out of maintenance mode. So I'm just curious what I'm in for when I do this again...
(I'm doing another rear brake job - they are squealing after just 25k miles)

not that i saw. I used the same procedure to enter maintenance mode. But like you i couldn’t get out of it. I was going to take it to my local mechanic. But after some searching i found the alternate procedure to get out of maintenance mode and voila it worked.
So- same procedure to get into brake maintenance mode.

Wanna hear something hilarious? I did the rear brakes yesterday. This time around I couldn't get the damn thing into Brake Maintenance Mode!! WTH... I just gave up on the whole maintenance mode thing. Pulled the rear tires off and disconnected the electronic brakes. Did the job, reconnected the electronics and everything is fine. Much easier than going through that maze of steps.

Rhetorical question: If I can use the dashboard menu to reset the Oil Life, why can't they program a dashboard menu for Maintenance Mode...???????????????????

I bought the "Forscan lite" app because plenty of people use that app to disable/re-enable maintenance mode in Ford's including the bronco sport. And... it wasn't there where it should be-no maintenance mode options. I'm guessing there's some internal firmware differences between some models (I have the BL) and others where it works just find- both the procedure above as well as the app. If anyone has any insight into that I'd love to hear it.

Hey there and good evening! I have come upon the time to replace my broncos brakes. Got 50k out of them. So I was sitting in my driving why trying out the procedure and forgive my I may be an idiot but how do you turn it on and back off with out it starting. Foot on the brake and hit the button and it starts. Or when you say turn it on at that point don’t mean start it. Sorry if that’s confusing.

Don't put your foot on the brake when pushing the start button.
