Either my 2023 Big Bend Sport is haunted, I had a senior moment, or something mechanically unusual happened today. I was going through a car wash when I felt a bump then a smack as I hit the car behind me. No major damage, but my car was in neutral when it happened. The owner said he heard about it happening to "another new Ford." Any clues?

Can also happen if you touch your brake pedal

My cousin owns several car washes in Missouri and says it happens all the time.
people panic pump, forget they are on a conveyor or more typically they press the brake pedal too long to put it in Drive. Did you inadvertently touch the brake pedal? That’ll do it

Sounds to me like for whatever reason the wheel on your car slipped over the pusher on the conveyor and the car behind you was pushed into yours.
That's what I thought was happening, but the video and employees show my Bronco was in reverse. Backup lights were on, but the shift knob was in neutral.

No brake pushing that I know of. Weird event. Thankfully, little damage.

Hmmm. Do you remember your hand ever getting close to the shift knob?

It is possible, Mark, but I sure don't recall it. Not only that, but after the collision I checked the shifter and it was in neutral, not reverse. Way weird.

Is your car named Christine, or the Wraith? A mind of its own.
[this is meant to be humorous, I hope I haven't offended you]

I don't recall touching the shift knob at all ... but, who knows ... maybe I spaced out and give it a twist. Other than an odd mechanical issue, there seems to be no other option.

Did you turn off your engine? I'm wondering if the car auto shifted into Park.

Engine was on. Car entered reverse. Shifter in neutral. Either that or I was in the Twilight Zone.

Better get a bumper sticker then

” caution- this vehicle has been known to randomly go into reverse without command “.

seriously - did the backup camera display?
