Over the last couple weeks I’ve seen thread after thread about issues with the Rough Country kit. My issue was the clunking in the front end, which was due to the horrible sway bar link contraption included with the kit. The drop down bracket adds another bolt. The links have bolts that constantly loosened. So I replaced the nuts with lock nuts and this held for a few weeks but have recently loosened. So I finally had it! I took my OEM links and shortened them the 1.5”.
Ive read other people just reinstalling the oem links but please note - this will push your sway bar down 1.5” and will change the leverage on the sway bar which “in theory” will affect articulation. Also, you need to shorten your links, not lengthen them with this kit. When the sway bar is attaching below, you lengthen the links with a kit. When it is below the links, you have to shorten them, which is why RC included new links that were short.
so here is how to properly fix the problem, by shortening the OEM links to size!
I marked sway bar link at the center with 2 marks, 1.5” from each other.
next I cut the section between the marks out
took the paint off where I was going to weld
Then welded is back together with the bolts opposite of eachother
I’ll be giving this a try over the next weeks and will report back!
Please ask whatever questions you have or comments below, I’ll respond.
Thanks,
