Our 2023 BS OB, in service for 3 weeks and 2500km, is at the dealership now for a howling noise in the rear diff. Has anyone had any luck getting the noise fixed? I've read several threads and Ford seems to like adding insulation to the rear. There's no way a diff should be making that much noise with so little km on it.

Does it go away when you turn off traction control? I think it is something with the traction control module or however it monitors the wheel spin.

User Scaryhours had their whole rear diff replaced and other parts in the rear and the noise was still there. So that is why I think it is something with the traction control. Especially since the noise goes away when it’s turned off and comes back a couple seconds when you turn it on back on.

Please let us know if you figure anything new or different out about this. I’ve had the noise since 28 miles. I’m at 700 now and the noise is still there.

Apparently there is a call in to Ford of Canada Tech support. The dealership is bouncing between unsafe to drive and perfectly fine. We shall see.

They’re going to tell you operating as intended. Ford doesn’t want to fix things. Just sell you stuff.

I really would like to know the root cause, but my spare tire well was insulated and I can’t hear the noise anymore.

For peace of mind, I had another ā€˜22 with the same issue, had the diff replaced and it still made the noise. I believe it’s normal road noise, but there is absolutely no sound deadening material so you hear everything.

i don’t think it’s a mechanical ā€œissueā€. But I’d like to hear what your tech says. Keep us updated!

EDIT: also had the backing plates replaced and the hubs replaced as well (both sides)

Is there any update on this matter?
Nope. It's going back in next Thursday to get some paint, panel, rust, rear end noise and water leak issues addressed. We are not amused.

Hope your vehicle would be better after this. I'll also update my thread after the service this week.

I’ve got the same issue with my daughter’s new 2023 Bronco Sport Big Bend. I have about 500 miles on it. There’s a high frequency, grinding type noise that starts whenever the car is in motion at any speed. When I turn off the traction control - the noise goes off like you’re turning off a switch. Turn the traction control on, and the noise comes right back. It’s been at the dealership for three days. Two techs have taken it out and say they hear nothing. I even drove around with my tech and turned the traction control off and on which made the noise go on and off and the tech said he couldn’t hear it, but that he had bad hearing. Starting to run out of patience. I’m going back in tomorrow for another drive with another tech.

Wondering if anyone has had any success at a dealership, identifying and fixing the problem. Trying to figure out which direction to go with this.

So far, just a bunch of techs telling me I’m hearing sounds that don’t exist.

Hi Travis! I can look into your bronco's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your bronco's VIN?
