Rear Belt Monitor Fault - Service Required

Started getting this message Jan 31 2023 from our 2021 Bronco Sport Outer Banks. Apologize for fuzzy picture. Had it into dealer yesterday and they say that the left front (driver's) buckle needs replacement and the part is on national backorder. Message seems odd for a drivers seat buckle issue. We have had our BSOB since November 2021. Coincidence or not, this error showed up after latest synch update.

Anyone else experienced this? What was your solution?

After the hassle of the last update and the fact that all it seems to have done is change the Audio screen layout and force me to go turn off the "Check for rear occupants" message again, I think I'm done doing updates. I worry about stuff like this getting introduced.

Update - issue is apparently with left front (drivers) pretensioner. Part M1PZ-78611B09AA - left belt assembly - is required; and is on national backorder. So, we wait.

Does appear to be just a coincidence… the pretensioner and a SYNC3 update seem unrelated but Bronco Sport parts on national back order still seems a way of life for Ford.

It happened same to me, OB '22, Ford took 35 days to find the seat belt buckle, part number LJ6Z-7861203-BA, tomorrow will get it tomorrow installed.

Thanks for the info and hope that you get your OB fixed soon! I'm still waiting on Ford to get the parts to dealer.

I got some seat belt fault in Ford Pass several times but nothing on the dash? Not sure if wife starts driving then puts seat belt on causing the fault? Nothing on dash so one doesn't know.

We get the "rear belt monitor fault - service required" message on the screen that require an "ok" button push to go away. Also have the little yellow airbag light on the dash that stays on. Same fault message shows up in my wife's FordPass app.

Monday 4/13 will mark 30 days since our dealer ordered the driver's shoulder belt restrain replacement part. Also have not received parts for brake pad or fuel injector recalls which are older.

There's a lot we like about our 2021 BSOB. But the recalls, and Ford Motor Company's performance in providing safety related parts have been disappointing.

First error I’ve seen. But have seen multiple reports of bad buckles/retention system

Update for 5/16/2023 - now 3 months that Left front (drivers ) pretensioner is unavailable - still on national backorder. Really disappointed with Ford Motor Company's commitment to customers after the sale.

Update - Dealer re-diagnosed the rear seatbelt fault. It was caused by defective drivers buckle LJ6Z 7861203 BB; not the left front pretensioner. Buckle replaced, and brake pads + PCM reprogram & drain tube recalls done. Finally.

I had the restraints indicator lamp warning with a message "the restraints control module has detected a fault with the second row driver side seat belt sensor" I pulled the belt all the way out from the retractor, then let the belt retract normaly and the error went away, the warning has not come back, that was September 2021.
