Hi All. Not very knowledgeable on what a RDU is and what it does. Making the sounds that need replacing sometime down he road depending on parts. Also, why did it fail? No off roading, city driver/highway. 2021 OB with 50K (Canada)

It's the Rear Differential Unit. It is apparently made of glued cardboard, ground unicorn horn, and good luck. There are all kinds of threads here about it here and on the general interwebs of things. Good luck, eh!

The RDU (Rear Differential Unit) is one of the reasons why I traded in my AWD Bronco Sport for a full-sized 4WD Bronco with a proper transfer case, Dana rear differential and a much more usable ground clearance.

The Bronco Sport RDU simulates a mechanical open diff using clutches, thus allowing the wheels to spin at different rates to allow for turns. These clutches can overheat and wear out under heavy use, and are contained within a sealed (non-serviceable) assembly. The RDU in the Bronco Sport Badlands (not sure about what's going on with the 2025's) can also simulate a locking mechanical differential.
