Just had the RDU replaced on my bronco sport. I started noticing something odd around 37,000 miles or so, this included a rubbing feel and noise whenever I would leave a parking space with my wheel turned in either direction, and either going forward or in reverse.
Took it to my local Ford dealership in Austin, Texas, and the service advisor was very helpful and got me into a rental that same day after describing what I suspected the issue was. It took less than a day to diagnose and confirmed that it was indeed the RDU, the technician found metallic shavings. They were able to get parts next day and begin working on it almost immediately, I took it in on a Monday and it was ready for pick up Thursday morning.
I do have the extended warranty but I believe this was covered under the manufacturers warranty since I paid zero dollars for the repair and the four days of vehicle rental. Despite the fact that the part failed, I was given a two year unlimited mile guarantee on the new RDU, so overall, I feel pretty happy on how the situation played out. The guys there at the local Ford dealership were very professional and courteous, and I’m just happy to get back into my bronco sport.

Welcome to the RDU Replacement Club. Grieco Ford Fort Lauderdale was very responsive on my replacement as well. Not something I expected but Ford did come through. Now hoping my tranny either goes to 150K or fails before the Drive Train warranty expires which is only 14K away. I still love the little beast but owning it is just waiting for another recall or something failing now. Unfortunately things have gotten so high-tech that about the only thing I can do anymore is change fluids and oil. Not a bad thing if it never breaks but can't help but wonder what's next.

My 2021 BS BB has 69000! Just had the RDU vent hose readjusted. Still makes a sound but not as bad. Worried now after reading the comments on the forum. I’m outta warranty. So I’m wondering what’s next.

I would take some preemptive action. Change the RDU oil asap and add a bottle of Friction Modifier, add the Modifier first. If you catch it in time you might save it from total failure.

Yeah I’m hoping I don’t have any serious issue when it’s out of warranty. Did you purchase any extended warranty?
