I was recently in Virginia and was chauffeured around in my sister in laws RAV4. I know it’s not a truck, but interior room, trunk room and mpg blow away the Bronco Sport. I recently took the Sport from Texas to Florida. What I had to put up top in a carrier would have fit in the trunk of the RAV4. Leg room in the second row is also plentiful. She also averaged over 30 at all times. I love my Sport, just wish it was a bit more roomy. Ford says the Fathom will be roomier than the RAV4. We shall see.

The RAV4 has had the hybrid option since 2016 and hybrid only started this year (2026). If your sister in laws RAV4 is a hybrid they do get great fuel mileage. Looking at city only driving my Badlands display currently says 17.4 mpg avg.
In my area the temperature lately has been in the mid 90's to low 100's so the ac is cranking also it's time for an oil change and air filter check, maybe that will help. I agree that the rear cargo area would be nice if it was a bit larger, I would also like a higher towing capacity.

The difference in interior room should not be a surprise, as the Rav4 is a foot longer overall.

  • Length: RAV4 is about 181 inches; Bronco Sport is about 173 inches.

The Escape is also about 181 inches long. I can definitely fit more luggage in the Escape than I can in my Bronco Sport.

5th gen RAV4 hybrids are getting 38-40MPG (38MPG highway and 41-42 city). Pretty amazing considering its bigger than the BS. Granted, it won't go places the BS will, but that's a significant MPG improvement. I have to REALLY work hard to get 27MPG out of my 2.0L (highway).
