Super intermittent. For sure if it idles long enough. Sometimes it’s there on start up. Sometimes not. Kind of changes if I apply pressure so thinking it might be a heat shield. But sounds internal.
I realize I can take it to dealership but just don’t want to deal with them if I can help it. Curious if anyone’s had a similar sound thanks!

Some things to think about: Are you smelling leaking fumes in the cabin? Depending on what is wrong could it be covered under the emissions warranty so might be worth it to take to the dealer. Maybe discuss coverage with dealer before letting them do anything. Also from the internet: A rattle in the muffler can be caused by loose or broken components like brackets, hangers, or heat shields, or it could be from internal damage such as broken baffles or a failing catalytic converter.

I bought a 98 Dodge diesel pickup that had a funny noise from the muffler, took it to the local muffler shop and they agreed something came apart inside the muffler. The dealer paid half and I had to pay the other half. It only had 99,000 miles on it.

I had the exact same noise, the service guy checked otu out found gravel traped between the rear heat shield and the muffler. in the summer I don't have the noinse in the winter when they start throwing gravel on the highways it comes and goes.
