OK. I've had Jack for just over a year. I do love him, but there are some things that I would like to grab an engineer by his necktie and shake him! Sorry, not condoning violence, just venting frustration.

1. The license plate lights glare into the back up camera! I bought an angle plate and bolted it in behind the license plate. Problem fixed. But nobody noticed it before?

2. The wheel well sizes. Most trucks have larger wheel wells. Not the sport. Very little wiggle room in there. Not many options for tire sizes in that snug space.

3. 5x108 bolt pattern, 37mm backspace rims. Really? There are so many affordable options out there for 5x4.5, but you had to go 5x4.25. Same as the focus, but those backspace is 50mm. So not compatible. Is it possible to trade out the hubs for ones fitted for 5x4.5 or something more common on the market? I doubt it.

Sorry.. just venting. Anybody have ideas along these lines? I did think of a solution to the back up camera glare. A relay that turns off the license plate lights when the back up lights turn on. You really don't NEED license plate lights backing up. Or relocating the license plate. Which brings me to my next point.

4. Lack of aftermarket accessories! This rant is for the accessories manufacturers. There was practically accessories for the big bronco before it was released! Bronco sport HELLO! Where's the aftermarket bumpers and cool ideas gear? There's very few things out there. I feel like I gotta take college courses infabrication and design and welding just to set jack up like the off-road capable befits that he is.

The bolt pattern is likely tied to the platform. Ford based the Bronco Sport on its C2 platform, shared with the Escape, Focus, and Maverick here in the US. Sharing a platform across models saves money, allowing Ford to keep MSRPs for these models relatively low. Every part you use that's different from one model to the next adds to the cost.

The wheel-well size reflects the fact the Bronco Sport, while certainly more capable offroad than the average crossover SUV, is not a rock crawler. The OEM tire size is more than adequate for the type of off-roading the BS is intended for.

I noticed this and it was discussed in a separate thread about backup camera quality. your fix is exactly what I suggested we could do as an owner........so could I see a picture of how you did it?

thanks!

This is a light mount from blazer international products. It bolts on behind the license plate with the same screws. Stock it sticks out past the bumper but if you trim it back to the light mounting holes it gives you just the right amount of coverage. This does not affect any warranties because it just slips in behind the license plate.

Cool tag light fix. I never had a problem with it but now I may fab a mod for that. Should be cheap, gotta look factory as possible.
As for the wheel well openings.
The tight size makes smaller, as in less expensive lighter tires and wheels look right.
And bolt and offset numbers.
Meaningless to me as aftermarket wheel prices are far higher than I’m willing to pay so for me and most likely 90% of the BS owners stock is just fine.
As I said before, the Bronco Sport is an escape on steroids, very good steroids but still. It’s not the Bronco.

Off topic, but if all 3 models share the same platform (maverick, escape, sport), why is the sport most often compared "down" to an escape (especially when full size broncos say they aren't really broncos), instead of being compared to the maverick?
Answering my own question, it's suv to suv instead of suv to truck.

Thinking Ford designed these to go to fishing spots, camp grounds, dirt roads, etc. Not for people to actually wheel. The approach angle is awful and really can’t be changed since the ECU is in the driver wheel well and gets dirty with normal driving. Is also why no front bumpers are out or are going to come out anytime soon since you’d need an extension to move the ECU into the engine bay. Think at least on the badlands they would’ve put it in a better spot.

Pretty minor complaint if that's all the engineering faults you can point out. Somewhere out there is a guy that engineered this and said "it's fine, send it":

Ha, if you spend enough time on here going foward, you will find that mostly everybody else is glad to help or point you in the right direction for any questions you may have. Others don't seem to understand that not everyone spends every waking moment glued to a forum and don't have time to dig thru threads. Feel free to ask anything and you will get good feed back. Just be prepared for the 1 or 2 "Jerks" that are in every forum.

Welcome and have fun...Go Phils!
