On my wife's '20 Ford Ecosport we had all kinds of sync problems. After about 1 year and 2 dealers I thought we had it cured. This last time around the dealer got Sync 3.4 23188 installed and everything was working correctly. Lately my wife's phone won't stay paired to the vehicle. We have re-paired it several times, but it doesn't stay paired. I'm going to try and pair my phone to her vehicle to see if the car or the phone is at fault. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Are you asking about just Bluetooth pairing, or connecting with a cable for Android Auto/Apple Carplay?

You don't mention what phone your wife has. I have an iPhone 15 and recently had a problem with the phone not staying paired with SYNC. It would initially pair and then it would lose the connection and pair again with in a minute. This would repeat several times. On a dirretent day it would be ok than the issue would happen again. I initially thought it was an issue with my new BS but it also happened with my 2019 Edge. Both vehicles have the same SYNC version 23188.

I went to the Apple store because there were many posts about bluetooth issues with the phone. They reset the phone to factory settings but the issue did reappear shortly after. The Tech did mention that it could be my hearing aids because the phone wasn't designed to connect to multiple bluetooth items at the same time. When it started happening again I disconnected the hearing aids from the iPhone and I have not had the problem since.

You mention that you are going to try pairing your phone to her Ecosport. You might want to also try pairing her phone to your BS.

I'm not real savvy about it. I only have a flip phone myself. Her phone is a Pixel 7. Does that help?

Are you having just Bluetooth issues, or trouble when connecting with a cable? Does she use Android Auto?

Bear with me here. I am not familiar with these terms. My stepson pairs her phone with the car. It is fine for a day or two. When you start the car the home screen lists the phone as Pixel 7 and everything is fine. Then the next time is still may be fine. Down the road we start the car, and the home screen says no phone connected. She has the phone with her, and it's turned on. If you go to phone settings Pixel 7 is listed but it will not connect. I'm not sure if the problem is in the car or in the phone. I'm going to pair my flip phone to her car and see if I have the same problem. I'm 80 and my wife is 78. The only reason we use her phone in the car is for the hands-free capabilities. It's possible she is doing something on her phone to disconnect it. I just want to make sure my Sync system is working correctly. The problem could be her phone or the phone operator.

Yes that helps, you most likely have 2 Android phones

And to rule out hearing aids as DWG said in Post #4 … any hearing aids in use while the pairing fails and are there any other Bluetooth devices in the vehicle?

Not at the time. I have now paired my phone to her car also. The car now lists both phones. I'll try to connect my phone later to see if it works OK. If it does, then the problem is with my wife's phone or something she's doing when using it. I'll let you know more in a few days.

Make sure both of you have the latest version of Android on the phone and the latest Sync version (3.4 Build 23188) on the vehicle. If not, update whatever isn't the latest version and see if that woks. The other thing you can try is plug the phone in and use Android Auto and see if it works.

Not necessarily. Sometimes the software facilitating connection between the two devices gets corrupted. Try deleting SYNC from the list of Bluetooth devices on her phone and reconnecting.

@Mrmike, since your stepson does the pairing and setup, it might be helpful if you asked him about the problem and let us know what he thinks is going on (or what he thinks the solution should be). That way, us Sport owners may be able to more directly assist.

Just a thought.
