I was lucky. I stop riding at least two hours before sunset now. Your description of Texas deer behavior is spot on. They are surprisingly unconcerned by traffic.

I would leave Kerrville at 1:00 am and it would be non-stop deer sightings until I got out of the hill country. After several trips, my deer PTSD from driving in Wisconsin subsided although you’d still get a young one run once in a while. October - November…… all bets were off.
