Hello!

First post here..

So I noticed about 2 months or so ago some paint missing from my bronco when I was washing it. I proceeded to find more spots on the vehicle. I pay an additional fee for paint coverage, but am being told this is not covered under that coverage. Did a minimal amount of research and found this is not uncommon with the 2021 Bronco sport.

My question is - has anyone had this issue and gotten it resolved? I feel this is a defective paint job and not sure how to get it taken care of as my dealership is putting up a fight about it. They claim it’s all from rocks.

TIA

I would say the paint chips you see on front-facing surfaces are most likely caused by rocks or other road debris. Paint chips near the rocker panes (close to the bottom of the car) may also be caused by rocks/debris getting flung by your tires. Paint chips elsewhere are less and less likely to be caused by rocks/debris. One of your photos appears to be just above the fake vent on the side of the fender. I don't see how that can be caused by rocks or debris on the road. Maybe your dealer thinks kids are throwing rocks at the side of your car...

Ouch! Ford has had paint issues before. I’m currently driving a 2017 Escape S that I bought new. About a year ago, I noticed that the paint was mostly gone from the leading edge above the windshield. Basically, a one inch strip between the glass and the roof proper. The primer is still good, so no rust worries. I got an estimate of $1800 to fix it. I decided not to worry about it as I was shopping for a new car anyway. I did Google the issue, and found that there are hundreds of other Escape owners with the exact same problem. But only the ones with blue paint! Ford is not paying for repainting, claiming the problem is caused by high pressure car washes. But more than a few people with the flaking paint washed their Escape by hand, so that’s bull hockey. No class action yet. I’m getting $17,500 on the trade in. (Only 16K miles) They can fix it a lot cheaper than I can. I think I’ll do the PPF on the Sport’s vulnerable spots. The OB I ordered has a black roof, and I plan on getting white wrap on the top (for heat reflection, not noticeable from the side) between the rails and extending down to the windshield. I’m still debating with myself over getting the glass protection film. I’ve noticed a few dealers in the area are prepping the Sport badlands trim with it as a precaution. ($299).

My 2016 Fusion had a few paint chips after 35,000, but nowhere near as bad as the OP’s BS.

My 2019 Escape, which has about 37,000 miles on it, has a few paint chips but nothing as bad as the OP’s. In fact, the Escape’s paint has held up really well.

We’ve taken plenty of rock hits.

Is the paint used on the Bronco Sport really that bad?

My 2021 Bronco Sport which I've had for 16 months doesn't have any chips at all. Yours looks like you were following a gravel truck.

The last picture I see cracks looks like flaking paint like there is paint adhesion issue.

Mine has 4900 miles on it including a 4 hour each way vacation on highways. No chips anywhere.

Some ppl on this forum have been able to get dealer to repaint areas.

Maybe try another dealer. Also maybe have body shop look at it see what they say.

yeah it’s mind boggling because yeah I hear an occasional ping from rocks on the windshield, but I drive the same 3 roads everyday to and from work with minimal traffic. Been driving these roads well before I got my BS also.. the one road is a little further on it than I have ever traveled since my move, but the roads seems just like any other road as far as the amount of rocks goes..

i had a few of those thoughts in mind. Meeting with the dealer I purchase the BS from tomorrow after work.. will see what comes from that.. giving them every opportunity to step up and make it right but it’s getting harder and harder to stay patient. I do drive a lot each day (60 miles) but as I said in a response to another post, roads aren’t gravel filled and I’ve been taking these routes for years.

I assume that you didn’t take it without a hefty discount. How did that interaction go if you don’t mind diving into it?

Did not get a discount. Dealer used touch-up paint.
