I went with the Goodrich Trail A/Ts (235/65/27), I know they pull my BB through foot+ snow effortlessly. In Buffalo NY area, that's kind of important
235/65/27??? I’m guessing that’s a typo, since I doubt a 27” wheel would fit (if it even exists). Sorry, I had to. ????

I bought a new Silverado 2500 2wd in 2007 to pull my 5th wheel rv. After a while I installed a set of hummer h2 wheels and Toyo at3 tires. I was amazed. With 2wd I could go anywhere even in relatively deep snow and ice. Mud and dirt roads in campgrounds were never an issue. They were quiet and smooth for a 10 ply tire.
My son just put a set on his 2019 Silverado 1500. He pulls a trailer to Chicago in the winter to go goose hunting. He said he’s gone through stuff he would have never thought of before. They’re expensive but worth it if you need a tire like that.

yo dont have to modify to put those tires?
I think there are a couple of people on this forum that have installed this size without issue.

These days you cant really go wrong with any of the top brand tires.

Interesting that there would be a balancing issue with the Falken Wildpeak AT3's as they are the factory OEM tire option for the BS Badlands, First Edition and Heritage Limited.
Other people on the board have installed them as well with no mention of balancing problems, not to say it cant happen.
I've had my 245 65R 17 Falken Rubriteks for over 27k miles, they are like the AT3's.
They are wearing evenly though they are now sounding like a 4X4 tire, other than getting noisy I havent had any problems with them.

Isn't sounding like a 4X4 tire part of the 4X4 life?:D

There are people that complain about tire noise.
As far as 4X4 tire noise, it doesn't bother me, I'm use to it, I've had 4X4 vehicles most of my life.

I've been very happy with my Falken 235/65R17's. I tested them extensively over the weekend in both snow and mud. I will buy a taller tire for clearance when I replace these. I like more rubber between me and the rocks so I'll go with a higher aspect. I may try the Falken AT4W, but don't know if I want to take the hit on gas mileage. When I put KO2's on my Jeep Liberty, it dropped my gas mileage almost 10%.

In the desert, wider tires ride better on rock and sand. In snow and mud, the narrower tire works better.

Jeremylj1972:

Like I eluded to before, I'm a automotive noob. But I do shred information (more knowledget than practical experience). I've learned alot about vehicles, motors, electical systems, off roading, road handling, MPG, etc from this site and from the links everyone posts.

Meanderthal and Mark S have been excellent teachers, you guys should do some type of channel.

Anyway, I will say that as NMHunter stated my Falken AT3 (235/65/R17's) have been the first tire I've EVER been impressed by, so much so that I might try to buy them again if they are still selling them when I'm ready (have about 10.5K on them now).

Note, it's Friday at 10:45 a.m., so that will likely change by Noon. I'm sure I will retalk myself into the AT4's at 245...

I've had them off road once and was crazy impressed with them, handled a steep wet rocky slope like a mountain goat, I was putting a Tacoma on street tires to shame.

And on road they have been incredible in dry, wet, slippery etc conditions.

Might be worth another try if you haven't made your decision already, given that they were the tire that Ford puts on as upgrades and what ALOT of this community runs on, your experience had to be an outlier. (Not saying it is less real, just that these really are damned good tires).

Anyway, hope you enjoy whatever you roll with, and same to anyone else struggling with these decisions. (Constantly amazed at how lucky we are to live in such a great country, I think we all hate where it is, but it is about the best place to be and those few places that may enjoy a higher quality of life mostly do so because the US has kept the wolves at bay, thanks to all our military out there).

Happy Trails and Safe Travels All,

RR
