I can pair and use the OBDLink MX+ with my iPad.
But I can’t get the MX+ to pair with my Android phone.
It says I have an incorrect PIN or password.
But it never asks for a PIN or password.
I did the manual reset on the MX+ and that did not help.
Has anyone had this problem ?
And any ideas on how to get it to work.

I paired my OBDLink MX+ successfully with an Android device. You did first scan the QR code supplied with your OBDLink, correct? And you did have the OBDLink plugged into the port and click the connect button, correct?

Are you saying that you did not see a QR Code in the supplied Quick Start documentation?

>> The directions didn’t say to do the .

Not sure what you're saying here. I'm looking at the Quick Start directions now, and - starting at Step 1 - it clearly says "Download the OBDLink app" and displays a QR code.

In the Getting Started documentation that came with the ODBLink device, Step 1: Download the OBDLink app. That is done using the QR Code. You do this before plugging in the ODBLink device into the ODB port. You do it before attempting to do a Bluetooth pair. The pair credentials are confirmed in Step 5, in the app and that must happen before you can successfully connect.

The error you posted is not a OBDLink error: it's a Bluetooth error, stating that it cannot connect because it can't authenticate to the device you're pointing it to. It can't authenticate because you don't have the app installed.

To re-iterate: You first have to install the app, using the QR Code (I don't have any Apple devices, so can't tell you if there is an equivalent in their AppStore). The app is considered part of your purchase. If you don't have an app, you can't connect via Bluetooth (or anything else, for that matter - the device is useless). The app has a one-to-one relationship with one specific ODBLink device, and that has to be established at the very beginning.

There is complete documentation here (including the Quick-Start): https://www.obdlink.com/support/

Hope this helps.

No matter what I try I always get the incorrect PIN number message when I try to pair.
But nowhere does it ask me to input a PIN.
Very frustrating !

Please confirm that you did you install the app on your iPhone, using the QR Code. You did not state whether you first installed the app on your iPhone. You WILL be frustrated if you do not first install the app.

There is no PIN. ODBLink does not use a PIN. The error you are seeing is not coming from ODBLink: it's coming from your phone's operating system. It is ASSUMING that it is a PIN or password which is needed.

What is needed is the ODBLink application. Installation of the application ("app") is found in Step 1 of the Quick Start documentation supplied with your ODBLink device. The app is considered part of your purchase. If you don't have an app, you can't connect via Bluetooth (or anything else, for that matter - the device is useless).

The problem is not your inability to provide a PIN or a Password. Your problem is that you have not FIRST installed the app prior to attempting to plugging in and pairing.

Yes I installed the app and followed the directions.
It always ends up saying I have an incorrect PIN.
It pairs and works on my iPad but not my Android phone.
It just will not pair on my phone !

OK. First, you might want to try restarting your Android phone. If that doesn't fix the problem, I would contact the vendor for support, or check with the forum using the link below:

Check what the minimum android version the software requires.

My 3 year old phone wouldn't work with certain programs because the phone wouldn't update beyond version 12.

I hate this built-in Obsolescent crap.
